This position is established to support the Orion Project by leading the development and industrialization of next-generation manufacturing and repair methodologies for critical gas turbine components. As an Expert Professional within the GS Technology Application Center, this role is pivotal for transforming how components like blades, vanes, and casings are manufactured and serviced, directly impacting scrap rates, throughput, quality, and cost.

In this pivotal role, you will lead the development and industrialization of next-generation manufacturing and repair methodologies for critical gas turbine components. Imagine operating at the forefront of advanced manufacturing, automation, and process development, where your efforts will directly influence scrap rates, throughput, quality, and cost. You will investigate and implement cutting-edge technologies like adaptive machining and robotics, enhancing processes from casting to repair. Your data-driven approach will identify bottlenecks and drive continuous improvement, ensuring that our innovations transition seamlessly from the lab to the industrial environment.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Lead the research, design, and industrialization of novel manufacturing and repair processes for critical gas turbine components, including blades and vanes.
  • Investigate and pilot emerging technologies such as adaptive machining, robotics, and advanced tooling to enhance production capabilities.
  • Analyze manufacturing systems using methodologies like Value Stream Mapping to identify waste and improve throughput.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean and Six Sigma principles to enhance efficiency and quality.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert, providing technical guidance and managing operational plans for process development initiatives.

What You Bring

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering; a Master’s degree is preferred.
  • 8-12 years of progressive experience in manufacturing engineering, focusing on process development and R&D.
  • Proven experience leading complex technical projects and acting as a subject matter expert in a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with gas turbine components or high-value industrial equipment is highly preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to influence cross-functional teams effectively.
