A Snapshot of Your Day

We are looking for a highly skilled Research and Development Engineer to join our organization. This position focuses on heat transfer modeling, analysis, and tool development for large gas turbines. The role involves developing advanced software tools and methodologies—leveraging both conventional and AI/ML-based technologies—to support the design and optimization of thermal systems in turbomachinery.

How You’ll Make an Impact
  • Development and maintenance of heat transfer analysis tools and design software for gas turbine components such as blades, vanes, and combustors
  • Creation and integration of surrogate models, digital twins, and reduced-order models for thermal/thermodynamic performance prediction and design optimization
  • Automation of multi-disciplinary design processes involving heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and mechanical integrity
  • Application of AI/ML techniques and Large Language Models (LLMs) to streamline engineering workflows and enhance predictive capabilities
  • Collaboration with multi-functional teams for requirements gathering, model validation, and ensuring tool usability and accuracy
  • Documentation of software tools and provision of training and support to engineering teams
What You Bring
  • Master´s degree or equivalent experience in mechanical engineering or aerospace engineering with a focus on thermal sciences
  • Long term experience (or a PhD) in the gas or aero turbine industry; experience with AI/ML, digital twins, or data-driven modeling in thermal systems; knowledge of high-performance computing (HPC) and cloud-based simulation environments (e.g., Azure, AWS)
  • Strong background in heat transfer, thermodynamics, and gas turbine component design, along with a good understanding of heat transfer analysis tools and gas turbine component fundamentals
  • Proficient programming experience (Python, Fortran, bash, C, C++, Linux)
  • Eligibility to work on control technology as required by U.S. export control regulations
  • In-depth understanding of convection, conduction, film cooling, thermal barrier coatings, and cooling technologies in gas turbines; familiarity with CHT, CFD, FEA, and thermal modeling tools (e.g., ANSYS, Fluent, CFX, or in-house codes); working knowledge of Gitlab and Linux
  • U.S. Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.
