Über die Aufgabe
A Snapshot of Your Day
Step into the world of Siemens Energy and become a driving force in shaping the future of noise reduction systems for gas turbines. In this master thesis, you’ll initiate the design of a robust and versatile aero-acoustic test rig—a critical tool for characterising silencers under real-world operating conditions, including high pressure, temperature, and air flow. Your journey begins with a deep dive into existing experimental setups, such as the two-port method, evaluating their strengths and limitations. You’ll optimize these designs to meet the demanding requirements of Siemens Energy’s products and engineer the minor components and attachments that bring the rig to life.
Once built, you’ll conduct hands-on experiments, develop post processing for multiple silencer configurations, and contribute to a test rig design that balances measurement quality, user-friendliness, and cost-efficiency.
How You’ll Make an Impact
Your responsibilities for the Master Thesis include, but are not limited to:
- Conducting a literature review of the existing methods and evaluating the needs of the test rig.
- Design of attachments, and subcomponents of the test rig.
- Coordinate with the CAD team and manufacture said subcomponents.
- Experiments and analysis of aero-acoustic behaviour of systems hence validating the performance of the test rig.
- Present your results to a global team within R&D Test.
With this assignment you will have the ability to train and improve your problem-solving capabilities by developing skills to transform the theory you will stumble upon during your coursework and pre-study into practice.
What You Bring
We believe this Master Thesis opportunity is suitable for students in their last year of studies within engineering working on a specialization or harnessing interest within acoustics, industrial design or similar. We hope you are someone with the following attributes:
- Passion for new technological advancements and engineering challenges.
- Willingness to learn and adopt to new information and knowledge.
- Self-driven with a problem-solving mindset to achieve completion of tasks.
- Enthusiasm to observe and learn from working alongside highly qualified professionals within the domain.
- Wishes to develop confidence in solving complex Multiphysics problems related not only specifically to Gas Turbine technology but also in general, giving you a competitive edge in today’s career market.
- English proficiency.
About the Team
You’ll join a dedicated team focused on acoustic and vibration testing. The team works within the R&D testing department and collaborates with different teams focusing on core development. Together you will build a strong network among test engineers, design engineers, and manufacturing technicians.
Our Gas Services division offers Low-emission power generation through service and decarbonization. Zero or low emission power generation and all gas turbines under one roof, steam turbines and generators. Decarbonization opportunities through service offerings, modernization, and digitalization of the fleet.
