Über die Aufgabe
Master Thesis - Calibration of heat transfer finite element models based on instrumented combustor chambers in gas turbine engines.
A Snapshot of Your Day
The proposed master thesis aims to address the calibration of experimental tests on instrumented combustor chambers, the resolution of inverse heat transfer problems in a finite element context, and the development of a framework to generalize this methodology to other structures. In short, we are interested in finding a methodology to obtain the transient thermal boundary conditions that result in the metal temperatures recorded on a test for an instrumented prototype engine. This project offers an exciting opportunity to learn about turbine engines and contribute to the advancement of combustion research and the development of more efficient and environmentally friendly combustion systems.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Conduct a comprehensive review of the current inverse heat transfer methodologies with focus on calibration of numerical models based on measured data.
- Develop and implement inverse heat transfer analysis techniques in a finite element context to determine steady state and transient heat transfer coefficients within the combustor chambers.
- Generalize the calibration and inverse heat transfer analysis methodology to other structures.
- This project offers an exciting opportunity to learn about turbine engines and contribute to the advancement of combustion research and the development of more efficient and environmentally friendly combustion systems.
What You Bring
- Currently enrolled in a master's program in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field.
- Strong background in heat transfer, FEM and/or CFD analysis.
- Background in programming, ideally Python and Fortran.
- Proficiency in numerical modelling and simulation software.
- Good problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
About the Team
In our team (Mechanical Integrity of Combustion Systems) we have many talented and highly educated engineers with different backgrounds and responsibilities. We strive to support each other and build a strong technical knowledge within the team. We collaborate closely with the turbine and compressor MI department, and our team includes specialists in the field who are available to provide support.
Our Gas Services division offers Low-emission power generation through service and decarbonization. Zero or low emission power generation and all gas turbines under one roof, steam turbines and generators. Decarbonization opportunities through service offerings, modernization, and digitalization of the fleet.
We can offer you employment benefits such as: reduction of working hours, advance vacation, health care allowance and an eventual possibility to a flexible working place.
