A Snapshot of Your Day

The HT (Heat Transfer) Design and Analysis Engineer position provides an exciting and challenging opportunity to work in a dynamic engineering product development environment. Each day involves working both independently and collaboratively with colleagues across many engineering teams, both cross-organizationally and globally, on a wide range of projects and tasks covering conceptual studies, detailed design development, data analysis, service support, and issue resolution projects. The environment is fast-paced, demands active involvement with continuous learning, and rewards initiative, creativity, and collaboration!

Each day involves a variety of activities spanning application of tools for performing fundamental design and analysis tasks, review, interrogation, and communication of results, innovative thinking to arrive at solutions, and initiative to explore, develop, or improve methods, and presentation to customers, management, leadership councils and design boards, as required. Continuous learning takes place, through execution of tasks and activities, application of field knowledge, implementation of innovative thinking and ideas, and through classroom attendance on both technical and non-technical topics.

This job involves the aero-thermal design and analysis of Large Gas Turbine (LGT) hot gas path components. The position requires extensive use and exercise of advanced thermal design and analysis tools, including CAD, FEA, and CHT. Further, a strong understanding of the fundamentals of heat transfer, internal flows, aerodynamics is essential, along with strong programming skills. Equally important is the ability to communicate effectively and a desire to collaborate.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Contribute to design of turbine hot gas path components, providing critical thermal analyses, evaluations and designs achieving innovative performance in terms of efficiency, component life, robustness, and manufacturability.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the tools landscape, including classical heat transfer specific tools, tool chains, and automated workflows, through utilization of tools and data reduction activities, providing ideas for improvement in functionality, efficiency, analysis fidelity, including identification of AI/ML opportunities and subsequent follow-on support.
  • Contribute specifically to the advancement of Conjugate Heat Transfer 3D thermal design methodology through application to components required for new engines, upgrades, and technical issues, along with identification of new CHT implementation approaches and application methodologies.
  • Contribute to vital engine and component testing, critical for validation of designs, analyses, and tools, by providing engine test and validation requirements, preparing test predictions and performing post-test data reduction and analyses.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, aerospace, or materials engineering, with a focus thermo-fluid science. 3+ years experience with FEA, CFD, and CAD, with strong familiarity of Conjugate Heat Transfer.
  • Industrial and practical experience with turbo-machinery, turbine hot gas path component thermal design, fluid systems, or similar applications.
  • Proficient in heat transfer subject area fundamentals. Computational and programming skills proficiency (e.g. APDL, python).
  • Comfortable in a global and dynamic, fast-paced Integrated Product Team environment. Highly motivated, proactive, self-directed, and innovative with excellent interpersonal skills and strong communication! (Business fluent in English.)
  • Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.
