A Snapshot of Your Day
The Civil/Structural Engineer, Substation and FACTs (Flexible A.C. Transmission Systems) will join the GT GS engineering team to support bid and execution projects for HV electrical substations. Your responsibilities will include performing, reviewing, coordinating, structural analysis and design of civil and structural works such as yard equipment foundations (shallow or deep foundations), equipment steel support structures, baseplate and anchorage, connections and building steel structure. Additional responsibilities will include reviewing supplier engineering schedules, claims, non-conformances, field technical support and field inspections. The role will report to the GT GS Engineering Manager.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Develop conceptual and/or detailed design of equipment and building foundations and anchorage, Develop conceptual and/or detailed design of equipment support structures and connections
- Develop civil works and building technical specifications, Calculate bill of quantities
- Review calculation and design drawings from Third party engineer or manufacturer
- Manage compliance with Customer technical specification, applicable codes, standards and regulations
- Co-ordinate designs from third party engineering partners and construction / building firms
- Review non-conformances for most cost and time efficient corrective action, Perform technical review of change orders and claims
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in civil engineering
- 8 or more years of experience in structural or civil engineering. Candidates with more experience can be considered for a higher level or vice-versa.
- Must know NBCC, CSA standards (A23.1, A23.3, A23.4, S16, G40.20, G40.21) and CISC Handbook of Steel Construction
- Project Experience in : Foundation structural analysis, Foundation and anchorage design, Steel support and connection design, Pre-engineered building structural design
- Proficient in French is preferred and strong organizational skills, with the ability to multi-task
- Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in Canada without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.
About the Team
The GT GS Engineering team supports multiple bid and execution projects starting from bid development until close-out of the execution project. The team oversees the engineering activities engaging in design and coordination of electrical, civil/structural, architectural and mechanical works through in-house and Third party engineering firm resources and works closely with suppliers in order to achieve the project requirements and compliance with customer technical specifications, codes, standards and regulations.
