OPPORTUNITIES

We have several engineering degree apprenticeships available within Siemens Energy, each role will specialise during the apprenticeship to support a specific engineering team within Siemens Energy, however the first year of the programme will be common.

Apprentice Onshore Primary Engineer

This engineer will join a team of experienced high-voltage equipment designers whose responsibility it is to arrange an onshore substation using 3D design techniques to ensure that all required components of a substation can be accommodated in as small a footprint as possible. This requires consideration of planning permission requirements e.g., maximum height and noise levels, plus how the equipment once installed can be maintained.
Each component must be designed, manufactured, installed and commissioned in line with a project programme and budget, and the engineer takes responsibility for the technical delivery of each component.

Apprentice Protection Design Engineer

This engineer will join a team of electrical equipment protection engineers whose responsibility it is to ensure that when a fault occurs within the substation, special protection systems ensure that personnel and the public are protected, and that damage is minimised to the remaining substation components.

This engineer will design networks comprising of advanced intelligent devices using modern Ethernet protocols such as IEC61850 to interconnect the systems required to protect a substation. The engineer will also design the configuration and settings of the intelligent devices, test these configurations within a laboratory environment, and assist with the installation and commissioning of the products both on- and offshore.

The role will develop a strong appreciation of both hardware and software systems, along with knowledge of Cybersecurity and communication network components such as switches and router.

Apprentice SCADA Design Engineer

This engineer will join a team of electrical equipment control engineers whose responsibility it is to ensure that all components within a substation can be remotely monitored and controlled from a central facility owned by the customer.

This engineer will design networks comprising of advanced intelligent devices using modern Ethernet protocols such as IEC61850 to interconnect the systems required to monitor and control the substation. The engineer will also design the configuration and settings of the intelligent devices, integrate 3rd party systems such as fire systems or CCTV systems, test these configurations within a laboratory environment, and assist with the installation and commissioning of the products both on- and offshore.

The role will develop a strong appreciation of both hardware and software systems, along with knowledge of Cybersecurity and communication network components such as switches and router.
