A Snapshot of Your Day

As a Protection / Substation Automation Engineer at Siemens Energy, you will be responsible for the design and implementation of secure and reliable Substation Automation Systems (SAS) focused on protection and control solutions for electrical systems for medium and low voltage systems of conventional and renewable power plants.

The role also requires a deep understanding of electrical engineering principles and involves ensuring compliance with industry standards, particularly IEC61850, perform network simulations, relay coordination studies and commissioning the system. Close collaboration with SCADA and cyber security teams is essential. The candidate must have extensive knowledge of communication protocols and networks.


How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Engineer innovative protection relay systems for medium and high voltage for bids and projects, by conducting network simulations, short-circuit and relay coordination studies as well as project documentation.
  • Conduct rigorous testing, parameterization and commissioning of protection relays.
  • Design and implement secure substation automation systems (SAS) integrating protection relays with SCADA.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., IEC 61850, IEEE, NERC CIP).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Protection engineers, SCADA engineers, IT professionals, and cybersecurity experts.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in electrical systems, substation automation, cybersecurity, and network technologies.


What You Bring

  • Must hold a university degree in electrical engineering or a related technical field, complemented by relevant industry experience with minimum of 5 years’ experience.
  • Large experience in engineering, testing and commissioning of protection systems, with high emphasis on Substation Automation integration (SCADA integration).
  • Experience in relay coordination, fault analysis, networks simulation and short-circuit calculations (PSS Sincal, ETAP or similar software).
  • Proficiency in communication protocols such as IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus, and IEC 60870-5-101/104.
  • Knowledgeable in cybersecurity for substation automation; experienced in network design, configuration, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills to integrate our engineering team.
