A Snapshot of Your Day

In this dynamic role, no two days will be the same. The Design Engineer specializing in Mechanical Offshore under the guidance of senior engineers is responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing mechanical systems for offshore platforms (AC/DC), ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance with industry standards. The role involves working on a variety of large and dynamic projects, collaborating closely with multi-functional teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.

You will engage with clients to understand their requirements and provide updates on project progress, ensuring that the solutions delivered meet customer specifications and industry standards.

A continual improvement focus must be established to achieve this by taking a broad approach towards mechanical system design and optimization throughout all projects & tenders. As the Design Engineer, you will offer experienced advice to all collaborators, making critical adjustments to achieve project objectives or optimally lead changes identified through assessments and technical reviews. Your proactive problem-solving skills and technical expertise will be key to driving the success of our offshore platform projects.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Passion for Renewables. You desire to work on offshore renewable projects – design, build, install, deliver Offshore Substations for Offshore Wind farms.
  • Inspired! You are inspired by new ideas, technical and also non-technical.
  • Passion for Engineering – background in any engineering field, ability to grasp engineering concepts, ask searching, detailed questions and through that form a good understanding of a technical problem.
  • Communication – able to articulate ideas clearly, convince and influence by listening and asking, then responding accordingly.
  • Develop – want to develop as a person in leading, presenting and influencing, contract management and terminology, technical breadth and deliver large offshore substation projects.

On day-to-day basis you will work on

  • Working within the Offshore Substation Team to develop and design AC Offshore substations.
  • Contributing to the AC platform mechanical design, including HVAC, Fire detection & Suppression, Mechanical handling, Offshore Cranes and drainage control systems.
  • Contributing to the AC platform Technical Safety design, including Fire and Explosion and Escape Evacuation Assessments.
  • Working across a broad spectrum of projects across all phases, including tender, feed and EPCI.
  • Working specifically within the Mechanical and Technical Safety team to develop:
  • Technical specifications
  • Design documents and reports
  • Collaborating with sub suppliers and partners to review documentation and ensure compliance with specifications and the overall design concept.
  • Acting as technical interface between sub suppliers and client on mechanical and safety items.
  • Collaborating with other members of the team and the wider Engineering fields on specific engineering topics and solutions, including business improvement initiatives and R&D.
  • Exposure to other fields providing a comprehensive understanding of the engineering process on offshore substations.
  • Analysis of customer requirements and scope of work documents highlighting key deviations to design solutions.
  • Programme and planning: Contributing to project planning, ensuring smooth delivery at EPCI phase.
  • Responding to customer comments and technical queries
  • Opportunity to work in DC Offshore substations if needed.
  • Visits to site when required to remedy solutions, inspect engineering solutions and contribute in lessons learned reviews

What You Bring

  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Engineer (2-5 years), preferably in the renewable energy & offshore sector.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical codes, standard
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems design, analysis, and testing.
