A Snapshot of Your Day (Position Overview)
As a Customs Regulatory Specialist, you will play a critical role in supporting Siemens Energy’s compliance with U.S. and international trade regulations across North America. Your day may include advising business partners on customs and export control requirements, reviewing transactions and operational processes for compliance risks, coordinating with legal and regulatory agencies, and driving continuous improvement initiatives within trade compliance operations. You will work closely with cross-functional stakeholders including legal, supply chain, logistics, engineering, procurement, and operations to ensure import/export activities are compliant, efficient, and audit-ready. This role provides the opportunity to act as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert in a highly visible and business-critical compliance function.
How You’ll Make an Impact (Responsibilities)- Provide expert guidance to business units on U.S. customs regulations, export controls, product classification, rules of origin, and trade compliance requirements to support compliant international operations
- Develop, implement, and maintain internal import/export compliance controls, licensing processes, and operational procedures aligned with U.S. regulatory requirements and Siemens Energy standards
- Conduct internal audits, assessments, and gate reviews related to technical data, foreign travel, shipments, and trade activities to verify compliance effectiveness and identify process improvement opportunities
- Analyze trade compliance metrics, maintain regulatory records, and support investigations and resolution of complex compliance issues in partnership with legal and regulatory stakeholders
- Build and maintain strong relationships with government regulatory agencies while supporting cross-functional alignment with supply chain, logistics, procurement, engineering, operations, and legal teams
- Develop and deliver trade compliance training programs while coaching and reviewing the work of lower-level professionals and serving as a subject matter expert within the organization
Export Control Requirement:Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
What You Bring (Requirements)- Bachelor’s degree in International Business, Law, Supply Chain Management, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in international trade compliance, customs regulations, export controls, and import/export operations within a corporate or industrial environment
- Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) and/or Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) certification preferred
- Strong knowledge of U.S. customs regulations, export controls, rules of origin, product classification, trade agreements, and regulatory compliance requirements
- Demonstrated experience managing compliance programs, conducting internal audits, implementing internal controls, and driving process improvements within trade compliance operations
- Strong analytical, risk assessment, and investigation skills with the ability to independently resolve complex compliance challenges and provide practical business guidance
- Excellent collaboration, communication, and influencing skills with the ability to work effectively across legal, supply chain, logistics, engineering, procurement, and operational teams
- Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.
