About the Role
A Snapshot of Your Day
The EHS Specialist is responsible for daily interaction with the manufacturing teams by providing a collaborative partnership with contractors, employees and members of management and leadership. This position reports directly into to the site QEHS Manager at Winston Service Center. Collaborating with the QEHS Manager to develop and implement initiatives aimed at reducing employee risk, improving environmental performance, all in alignment with the organization's long-term goals.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Proven performance driving EHS as the cornerstone of campus operations.
- Assists in the review of current EHS programs, and development and implementation of new programs as the regulatory climate or site process’ change. Ensure changes do not negatively impact campus operations, regulatory compliance or increase risk to employees. Ensure conformance to Siemens Energy standards while meeting all business objectives.
- Facilitates and conducts investigations, audits, inspections, and training as needed to support the campus EHS program. Works to collaboratively develop and implement solutions to identified EHS gaps.
- Works with cross-functional teams in a collaborative fashion to reduce employee exposure to risks and ensure compliance across the EHS spectrum. Interacts daily with the campus population to coach and mentor on EHS risks and behaviors.
- As assigned, complete waste management activities, EHS reports, and other documentation required for regulatory compliance or to ensure conformance to Siemens Energy business requirements.
What You Bring
- A BS degree or similar experience in a technical field is required, with a preference for a master’s degree or equivalent experience in an Engineering Field. Equivalent combination of education and experience in EHS and manufacturing is accepted. Certifications will be required to be acquired in specific areas as they relate to auditing, waste management and OSHA programs.
- Five or more years in a direct Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) role associated with manufacturing. Experience directly related to the power generation industry is strongly preferred. Specific experience with fossil and nuclear power generation service and manufacturing operations is ideal.
- Three plus years of experience related to ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001. Proven track record to collaboratively develop and drive the daily activities and strategic EHS direction for the organization.
- Ability to work in a collaborative environment across all fields within the organization including operations, maintenance, human resources as well as contracted services.
- This position requires an understanding of OSHA, Worker's Compensation, EPA, NFPA, FM Global, and DOT requirements and how these regulations impact our business.
- Experience in root cause assessments, hazardous waste management, training, quality, and customer interfaces highly desired. Experience in large rotating equipment, welding and lasers, cranes, radiation safety and heavy machining manufacturing environment required. Experience and in-depth knowledge of power generation equipment is a significant asset.
