Senior Mechanical Integrity Engineer with interest in materials

A snapshot of your day

We are seeking a qualified and motivated Senior Mechanical Integrity Engineer to join our R&D Combustor Mechanical Design team!

In this role, you will support development projects to assess the lifing behavior of our components and drive technology for new initiatives. You will engage with the team in diverse tasks, including material development, methodology improvement, product development, and support for workshops, procurement, and service.

A key challenge in combustor development is managing high temperatures and cyclic loads from engine starts and stops, along with temperature fluctuations during combustion. Your designs must meet life requirements while optimizing aerodynamics for traditional fuels like natural gas and diesel, as well as hydrogen and other decarbonized options, ensuring stability and low emissions.

In this role, you will be offered a stimulating work environment, opportunities for professional growth, all while being a part of the energy transition!

How you’ll make an impact

  • Develop new designs and materials to support the decarbonization of the fleet and enable gas turbines to complement renewable energy sources.
  • Develop and improve lifing and material modeling methodologies for high-temperature applications.
  • Provide technical expertise for R&D projects and fault reports related to mechanical integrity.
  • Conduct life analysis, including Thermo-Mechanical fatigue (TMF) and Low-Cycle fatigue (LCF) and thermal stress evaluations
  • Utilize advanced tools like ABAQUS, Hypermesh, NX, and FRANC3D for evaluations.
  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams to gather data for risk assessment and stay updated on advancements in mechanical integrity and material modeling.
  • Identify technology gaps and new possibilities for technology development.

What you bring

  • Ph.D. in solid mechanics or a related field.
  • Strong interest in material modeling and FEM analysis for lifing calculations, with a strong understanding of relevant principles and methodologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, along with a collaborative approach and eagerness to develop with your colleagues.
  • Familiarity with software tools such as ABAQUS, HyperMesh, NX, and FRANC3D, and basic programming knowledge (Matlab, Python, Fortran, etc.).
  • Knowledge of combustors and gas turbines is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in English, both verbal and written.

About the team

You will join an experienced team of 12 employees and 9 contractors with a diverse set of backgrounds. The team includes both Mechanical Design and Mechanical Integrity Engineers, providing opportunities to engage early in product design. We promote open communication and collaboratively solve issues by leveraging each other’s strengths to enhance our technical knowledge.

Our Gas Services division offers Low-emission power generation through service and decarbonization. Zero or low emission power generation and all gas turbines under one roof, steam turbines and generators. Decarbonization opportunities through service offerings, modernization, and digitalization of the fleet.
