A Snapshot of Your Day

Join our dedicated team as you kick off your shift with a meeting to discuss safety topics, job assignments, and goals for the day. You’ll head to your assigned lathe, ready to begin machining a new generator rotor shaft. After checking shop notes from the previous shift in the electronic production system, you’ll look up work instructions and set up the necessary equipment for your production order. You’ll complete the machine setup by adjusting the steady rests and changing the shoes to the accurate diameter. Collaborating with a crane operator, you’ll load the rotor into the lathe, align it, and install the cutting tool for the first operation. You’ll engage in machining operations until the end of your shift, leaving detailed shop notes for the next team to ensure a smooth continuation of the process. The rotor will be in the lathe for the next 7 days, across 3 shifts daily, maintaining a seamless workflow.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • You will machine large electrical generator rotor shafts, typically crafted from 50 to 70-ton high alloy steel forgings.
  • You will set up and align the rotor using steady rests to ensure precision.
  • You will operate various machine tools, including the Tacchi CNC Lathe (18-meter length, 110-ton capacity) and multiple Ferrel CNC Lathes with varying capacities.
  • You will have the opportunity to guide and mentor employees in the Siemens Energy Apprenticeship Program, sharing your expertise.
  • You will engage in continuous improvement initiatives by applying the 5S methodology as part of a Lean production system.

What You Bring

  • You hold a high school diploma or equivalent experience with 4+ years of manual and CNC lathe experience, preferably with steady rest supports.
  • You have a solid understanding of G- and M-codes, crucial for programming and operating CNC machines.
  • Skilled in interpreting complex drawings, charts, tables, and using precision measuring tools.
  • You are eager to acquire a fork truck and crane license through Siemens Energy’s internal certification programs.
  • You are prepared to achieve a Silver Level or higher ACT® WorkKeys® National Career Readiness Certificate.

Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.

Offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and any other test(s) required for the role.
