A Snapshot of Your Day

The Cost Engineering (CE) function is the driver of cost transparency and optimization for externally purchased materials, components, and systems in the Siemens Energy (SE) product portfolio.

As a Cost Engineering Expert for Core Turbine/ Generator Commodities, you will lead a diverse range of projects and initiatives, from generating cost optimization ideas within interdisciplinary teams to leveraging the innovation power of our external suppliers. You will also enable the transfer of measures on products and solutions sold to external customers.

In addition to optimizing existing products, you will represent SE Procurement in the development of new products and exploration of new business fields. As an active core team member in selected key R&D projects, you will work closely with R&D Project Managers to achieve project targets, such as target cost, through the systematic involvement of strategic suppliers in the development process.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Collaboration Enhancement: Act as a team member CVE and Procurement collaborating closely to gain cost transparency. Foster close cooperation between Cost Management (CM) and Cost Engineering (CE), acting as a unified team to achieve common goals.
  • Supplier Engagement: Engage closely with suppliers to understand their strengths and weaknesses, facilitating informed decision-making. Collaborate with suppliers to improve their processes and enhance cost efficiency. Utilize theoretical Cost Structure Analysis (CSA) to negotiate and align with suppliers’ individual situations.
  • Strategic Support: Understand and actively support the Commodity/Supplier Strategy, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives. Ensure CE capacity aligns with the planned negotiation of commodities to optimize resource allocation.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with Marketing, Sales, and Project Procurement during the bidding process of new and/or optimized product offerings. Work across product lines to leverage overlaps and share learnings, enhancing overall team performance.
  • Cost Structure Analysis: Conduct detailed analysis of supplier-specific cost structures to identify opportunities for cost reduction. Assess scaling effects on bundling at suppliers to drive standardization and efficiency.
  • Process Improvement: Develop and implement effective cost-out measures in close alignment with cross-functional teams (e.g., R&D, Engineering, Procurement, Manufacturing). Evaluate and monitor the impact of new changes by Engineering on material masters, establishing a feedback loop with suppliers. Participate in early design discussions to ensure cost considerations are integrated from the outset. Lead Lean Workshops and Productivity Workshops with suppliers to drive process efficiencies and automation.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Act as a subject matter expert in negotiations, providing insights and recommendations to enhance outcomes. Represent Procurement in selected key R&D programs to develop the most competitive products based on market requirements.
