A Snapshot of Your Day

We are seeking a Mid-Level Control and Protection Engineer to support our Remote Operations Center. This role is centered on active, 24/7 SCADA monitoring for multiple utility customers, involving real-time system supervision, alarm response, and communication coordination with our field teams. You will play a key role in maintaining grid reliability, rapidly identifying issues, and escalating critical events to ensure timely resolution and response. You will be part of a dedicated team responsible for 24/7 operational oversight, responding to alarms, system anomalies, and field events. Using advanced digital monitoring platforms and communication tools like Slack, you will coordinate with internal engineering teams and local site personnel to assess conditions, acknowledge and triage alarms, and escalate critical incidents.

This position requires a mix of technical expertise, situational awareness, and fast, clear communication. Your work will help ensure that our systems remain compliant, efficient, and secure-supporting utility clients as they navigate increasingly complex grid demands. You will also help shape operational protocols, improve response times, and identify system trends or recurring issues that need further investigation by engineering teams.

As part of a shift-based team, you will participate in a rotational schedule that ensures seamless 24/7 coverage. The role is ideal for someone who thrives in dynamic environments, enjoys solving complex problems in real time, and is passionate about helping build a more resilient energy future.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Perform real-time monitoring of SCADA systems across a diverse utility and renewable energy portfolio.
  • Acknowledge, document, and respond to system alarms as they occur.
  • Use collaboration platforms (e.g., Slack) to communicate live events, issues, or escalations with internal teams and stakeholders.
  • Identify and escalate high-level or critical alarms to local site personnel per established protocols.
  • Conduct initial remote diagnostics and provide technical context to field engineers or technicians.
  • Ensure all incidents are logged and tracked accurately within internal systems.
  • Support the engineering team by flagging recurring issues or system performance concerns for review.
  • Assist in developing and refining alarm management and escalation procedures.
  • Participate in shift rotations to ensure 24/7 coverage.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, Power Systems, or a related field.
  • 3–7 years of experience in SCADA monitoring, control/protection systems, or utility operations.
  • Working knowledge of grid operations, energy storage systems (BESS), and substation controls preferred.
  • Familiarity with real-time monitoring software and remote diagnostics tools.
  • Experience working in a 24/7 control center or operational environment is a strong plus.
  • Strong communication skills, especially in fast-paced and high-pressure situations.
  • Comfortable using communication platforms such as Slack, Teams, or similar tools.
  • Ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure while managing simultaneous alerts and requests.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.
