A Snapshot of Your Day

The Siemens Energy (SE) Customs team supports SE businesses in all customs related matters, ensuring full compliance with applicable customs regulations and internal requirements in an optimal and efficient manner. The SE U.S. Customs Operations Manager-2 supports the SE U.S. Customs Operations-2 team with oversite, management and execution of all transactional operational import and export activities.
This role reports to Head of Customs North America and will be based at the U.S. HQ location in Orlando, FL or may be considered in Charlotte, NC.

How You’ll Make an Impact
  • Drive efficient and robust U.S. import & export custom clearance procedures. Management of day-to-day import and export activity (e.g., review of customs documents, broker instructions).
  • Directly supervises, mentors, develops, and assists the SE U.S. customs operations team members in the day-to-day import and export activities.
  • Analyze and aggregate the causes of customs clearance issues and delays to drive improvement actions with our partners and staff. Selection, instruction, and monitoring customs broker activities. Ensure the designated customs broker maintains compliance and exercises reasonable care in filing SE U.S. customs declarations.
  • Work with U.S. custom brokers, and internal and external customers on all matters pertaining to customs and import and export activities. Executing continuous improvement to standardize processes and develop best practices. Support the development and implementation of SOPs and trainings for U.S. customs brokers and operations team.
  • Support with cross-functional projects related to trade transactions. Support implementation of regulatory customs requirements for all SE U.S. businesses and its affiliates. Develop strong partnerships with SE U.S. business areas, communicating with functions across the organization regarding all transactional operational import and export activities.
  • Drive financial optimization through compliant use of special U.S. customs programs such as Temporary Import Bonds (TIB), Chapter 98 and Carnets. Management of the U.S. Customs Value Reconciliation program.

Export Control Requirement:
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

What You Bring
  • 10+ years of extensive experience in customs/international trade compliance. Bachelor's Degree—preferably in International Business or related field, Tax, or Finance. 
  • 8+ years of People Management and leadership experience. Customs Brokerage management experience is a plus. U.S. customs broker license is preferred.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills. Ability to collaborate with all levels within the organization to develop and deploy effective solutions and broader strategies. In-depth knowledge of CFR 15 and 19, customs valuation including value reconciliation and assists, U.S. HTS classification, Section 232 and 301, TIB, Chapter 98, FTA, Incoterms®.
  • Global Trade Management technology/ERP experience such as: SAP (GTS or GTM) or other global trade management software. Hands-on experience in streamlining and digitization of manual processes.
  • Project skills; including analytics, implementation strategies, metric measurement and continuous monitoring expectations and deliverables. Ability to work independently. Strong written and verbal communication / interpersonal skills. Presentation skills.
