A Snapshot of Your Day

This position provides a great opportunity to work as a Rotor Mechanical Integrity Engineer, you will demonstrate your knowledge of structural and mechanical integrity analysis to design, analyze and optimize new gas turbine rotor designs. To do so, you will apply a variety of different tools and 1D, 2D and 3D analysis methods.

Every day may be different, and the focus of your work will vary with the development phase of your projects. These phases include conceptual development, prototype development, manufacturing & testing, basic design & analysis, detailed design & analysis, manufacturing development & qualification and finally engine testing & validation.

You will align with colleagues, convince the customers and make decisions based on simplified low fidelity approaches if possible or run a 3D FEM, do a fracture mechanic or probabilistic assessment to find solutions for sophisticated design tasks, or anything in between.

You will be part of a global, international team and closely collaborate with colleagues from adjacent subject areas i.e. whole engine modelling, materials, product definition, manufacturing and service to develop a design that is a balanced compromise between project requirements for performance, lifetime and costs.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Lead the design, analysis and assessment of rotor & compressor parts and perform overall life cycle optimization using 1D, 2D and 3D approaches
  • Develop and implement enhanced structural design tools and methods
  • Assess and evaluate test and field measurements, as well as fleet and service feedback
  • Provide timely field service support and solutions to manufacturing or customer issues
  • Drive a team through tough technical challenges
  • Lead internal and external research and development programs including management of outsourcing specific tasks

What You Bring

  • University degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or similar
  • 10+ years’ experience in design, structural analysis, and mechanical integrity assessments
  • Significant design/analysis experience with rotating components for turbo-machinery applications or similar applications, with a strong background in mechanical integrity
  • Advanced knowledge of computational methods, i.e. FEA using NX Simcenter and ANSYS, fracture mechanics and coding experience with e.g. python to automize your workflows and process your data
  • Must have exceptional interpersonal skills and enjoy working with colleagues from different organizations and cultural backgrounds. Must be highly motivated, meticulous with an innovative thinking mentality and willing to take ownership of the product.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.
