A snapshot of Your Day

This position is an addition to the Grid Automation Engineering Center in the Americas, created to ensure business continuity and support regional projects. As a Specialist Professional, this role will provide subject matter expertise in the design and execution of high-voltage substation automation systems. To meet this objective, the role is structured around three core areas: Substation Automation System Design, System Implementation and Testing, and OT Cybersecurity and Network Management. This focus ensures the end-to-end delivery of technical solutions, from initial concept and specification handling to final commissioning and security implementation in compliance with industry standards. Given the focus on specialized engineering, the ideal candidate will possess extensive experience with HMI/SCADA systems in the energy sector. A deep understanding of standards like IEC 61850, proficiency in specific automation tools, and a background in electrical or automation engineering are essential for success in this role.

How You'll Make an Impact

  • 40% System Implementation & Testing
    • Configure, test, and commission RTU, SCADA, and HMI systems for High Voltage substation projects.
    • Perform Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) for control systems, including digital substations with Process Bus architecture.
    • Manage process data handling and integrate various subsystems within the substation automation system.
    • Configure SCADA communication gateways for integration with Remote Control Centers (RCC/SCC).
  • 30% System Design & Documentation
    • Handle control system specifications and develop technical solutions for substation automation projects.
    • Develop concept diagrams for substation control systems and communication interfaces (RTUs, HMIs, IEDs) compliant with IEC 61850 and customer specifications.
    • Create project-specific technical documentation, including functional design specifications and test protocols, based on customer requirements and local regulations.
  • 30% OT Cybersecurity & Network Management
    • Implement and manage OT Cybersecurity measures in substation automation projects, including system hardening, access control, and event logging per IEC 62443.
    • Design and configure OT network architectures, including Layer 2/3 switching, VLANs, routing, firewalls, and network segmentation.
    • Ensure network reliability by implementing redundancy protocols such as RSTP, PRP, and HSR.

What you Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in engineering of HMI/SCADA systems for High Voltage Substation control, protection, and automation projects.
  • Advanced English
