A Snapshot of Your Day

The Indirect Tax Accountant will be responsible for working with a third-party consultant to validate Sales and Use tax returns across all 50 States, assist with monthly reporting and reconciliations for payment and receivable balances in addition to reviewing the monthly summary reports provided by the third-party consultant. Additionally, this position will be responsible to respond to notices received from state and local jurisdictions. The position will also be responsible for reviewing exemption certificates for accuracy and validity prior to them being approved to be uploaded in Avalara, Cert Capture and Vertex, Certificate Center. Moreover, the individual in this position will act as the primary point of contact with the various business units within Siemens Energy and Siemens Wind to answer and resolve issues surrounding taxability.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Monthly compliance of sales & use tax, reconcile sales and use tax accounts and respond to notices surrounding sale and use tax issues.
  • Run Vertex reports and analyze the data to ensure the accuracy of data prior to sending to the third-party consultant for both Siemens Energy and Siemens Wind.
  • Provide support with the Vertex system integration and maintenance.
  • Validate exemption certificates in Vertex, Certificate Center, and Avalara, CertCapture.
  • Research taxability for internal customers and supervise tax law changes.
  • Work with Tax, Accounting and Business colleagues in the management and collection of information for indirect tax audits in addition to assist with processing refund claims.

What You Bring

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience in Accounting or Finance preferred; MS in taxation preferred.
  • 5+ years of state and local indirect tax compliance experience.
  • Extensive knowledge and ability to research, interpret and apply state transaction tax laws using tax research software.
  • Demonstrated ability to optimally prioritize, coordinate, and perform multiple tasks with varying deadlines simultaneously.
  • Ability to interact independently with peers and management, possess excellent accounting, communication and analytical skills and work under internal and external deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel and PowerPoint in addition experience with Vertex and ERP systems (i.e. SAP) preferred.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.
