A Snapshot of Your Day
- Your day starts smoothly with your own focus time where you define your working agenda for the day.
- After that you prepare the first meetings with internal colleagues for upcoming negotiations with your client. In the whole engineering approach, you are one of the key persons designing the plant layout of HVDC systems and you will coordinate different disciplines to design an optimal and cost-efficient layout solution for the project, in compliance with the industry practice and customer requirements.
- You may have to meet with the Layout contributors in person at the office or via Microsoft Teams in case of remote working, and you will be involved in the finding of improvements and solutions in your layout concept with the interdisciplinary project team.
- During afternoons you may have customer meetings in which you will present and discuss the plant layout and obtain the Client early feedback.
- Afterwards, you could have internal meetings with the project team to define the next steps in the design process and to update the project schedule if needed.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- To deliver a high-quality primary 2D or 3D layout design of HVDC stations in line with the agreed delivery timescales and budget in line with the process.
- Responsible for the 2D / 3D design of layouts and cross sections considering IEC standards, national and EHS requirements.
- Preparation of Earthing & Lightning Protection layout
- Preparation of foundation layout drawings including calculations based on internal procedures
- Preparation of Erection key diagram for installation based on engineering input and creation of busbar and clamp schedules
- Responsible for co-ordination with the client, civil, other interfaces for delivering the layout design.
- Monitoring of the engineering delivery progress for it’s own deliverables, including obtaining the needed input on time so timely delivery is guaranteed.
- Escalating issues as and when required to the Line Manager.
What You Bring
- Completed university degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or comparable. Alternatively completed training as a technician with correspondingly relevant working experience in the area of high-voltage switchgear would be desirable.
- Working experience in 3D layout design of high-voltage substations / switchgears
- Knowledge of international standards for AC & DC systems above 1 kV (including IEC, IEEE, EN and VDE)
- Knowledge of 3D CAD tools (Autodesk products such as AutoCAD, Inventor, Navisworks)
- Very good written and spoken English and willingness to travel internationally (<10%)
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, ability to analyze and learn as well as motivation, result orientation and enthusiasm for the job.

We form a central function in the design process and are continuously in discussion with all interface partners. In addition to the project business, we are heavily involved in the digitalization of our engineering processes and develop solutions to simplify and automate routine work. As part of the team, you are the driver of our Digital Readiness project, with which we want to make the vision of the Art of Engineering a reality.
