A Snapshot of Your Day
In your role as a rotor dynamics engineer you will experience a varied working day. You will be responsible for the rotor dynamic design of turbo-compressors within the order processing department. In close cooperation with experts from various departments, such as thermodynamics, sales and the test field, the work remains exciting, as each machine is tailored to the customer. The team works internationally, so a daily exchange is important to keep quality high. In the afternoon, a meeting with colleagues from the sales department is on the agenda. Creativity and initiative are required here. Together, you develop competitive machine concepts and help to ensure rotor-dynamically constructible solutions. You need to be flexible, because issue resolution cannot be planned. You will work in close cooperation with the local factory test team to support non-conformance investigations. A high level of creativity and expertise is required when analyzing machine data and defining corrective measures.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Completion of the rotor-dynamic design of single-shaft and geared turbo-compressors and compressor trains (lateral vibration and torsional analysis)
- Checking the mechanical design of rotor parts, such as impeller strength, impeller dynamics and impeller shrinkage design.
- Internal and external documentation of calculation results.
- Clarification of technical aspects with customers and subcontractors, e.g. as part of design reviews.
- Developing sophisticated, competitive solutions in collaboration with the sales department.
- Provide assistance with problem-solving during testing and at installation sites globally, focusing on rotor and machine dynamics for all components of the compressor train.
What You Bring
- A completed master's or bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering with a specialization in turbomachinery or a related field.
- Several years of professional experience in the field of turbomachinery with a focus on rotor and/or machine dynamics, as well as familiarity with standards and regulations for turbo-compressors is desirable. Those with more experience may be considered for a more senior level.
- Ideally technical experience in the testing and commissioning of turbomachinery
- Solid knowledge in the field of drive machines (gas turbines/steam turbines/e-engines)
- Excellent team and communication skills on a global level
- Proficiency in general software and data analysis skills required (e.g., Excel, Power Point, Word, etc.).
Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers
