A Snapshot of Your Day
Do you like to solve problems that help others and provide the best support regarding materials possible to our products within Siemens Energy, especially for our large gas turbine and large steam turbine products? As an engineer within a globally positioned team, you will support complex technology development projects with your specialized materials knowledge. This will significantly contribute to the advancement and reliable operation of Siemens Energy's gas turbines and steam turbines. The primary focus of this position is to investigate and develop metallic materials – primarily iron-based alloys – for our products as well as the effects of hydrogen on components and materials. This entails selecting and optimizing materials to achieve efficiency and reliability targets, thereby supporting our decarbonization goals. As part of a network of materials engineers, you will use your technical expertise to drive material development, playing a pivotal role in advancing our materials landscape and enabling the development of future products.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Support future materials strategies by utilizing expert knowledge in materials and drive development activities for new and advanced high-strength metallic materials and materials systems
- Be the main materials contact for combustion and casing development departments
- Consultancy in materials relevant topics – mainly steels and cast steels – to design, manufacturing and procurement departments
- Development and evaluation of assessment concepts for the Hydrogen impact on gas turbine and steam turbine components
- Creation of necessary test programs and supervision of their execution in internal and external laboratories as well as subsequent evaluation
- Representing Siemens Energy's interests in project-related research committees and incorporating acquired knowledge into future development projects
- Master or PhD in Materials Sciences or Mechanical Engineering with focus on Materials or another similar field
- Several years related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience
- Characteristics of steel and nickel-based materials for power engineering with in-depth knowledge of alloy formation and their analysis, as well as alloy optimization
- Ideally in-depth knowledge of the effects of Hydrogen on metallic materials
- Excellent team skills with effective communication & interpersonal skills to blend in a multicultural and cross-organizational team; experience in handling multiple and urgent topics at the same time & setting priorities
- Advanced English and German Skills
