A Snapshot of Your Day
Join us at Siemens Energy to explore the microstructural evolution of nickel-based superalloy IN718. You will engage in hands-on research, evaluating data from frequency scanning eddy current testing to measure electrical conductivity in thermally exposed specimens. Imagine working closely with advanced metallographic techniques to identify measurable microstructural indicators that correlate with time and temperature of thermal exposure. Your contributions will play a crucial role in improving the maintenance programs for critical gas turbine engine components, ensuring their reliability and performance. This is your chance to create a significant impact in the field of energy technology!
How You’ll Make an Impact
- You will evaluate data from frequency scanning eddy current testing to measure the electrical conductivity of materials.
- Collaborate with team members to conduct microstructural examinations and identify indicators for modeling microstructure changes.
- Develop a working instruction for sample preparation, metallographic examination, and image analysis to support your research.
- Engage in literature surveys and potentially perform thermodynamic calculations to aid in your modeling efforts.
- Partner with experts at Siemens Energy in Finspång to ensure the successful execution of your thesis work.
What You Bring
- Currently pursuing a Master’s degree or equivalent experience in materials science, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
- You have a strong understanding of metallography and materials characterization techniques.
- Proficiency in data analysis and familiarity with electrical conductivity measurement techniques is essential.
- You possess excellent problem-solving skills and a keen attention to detail.
- Advanced English proficiency is required for effective communication within the team.
About the Team
You will be a part of a global network of highly skilled professionals. You will be able to let your competence and professional life develop within Siemens Energy’s different initiatives and opportunities. Meet interesting new people while working and developing future energy generation solutions.
The Measurement and Component Testing team is composed of highly experienced and knowledgeable test technology engineers and measurement technology engineers. We are around 20 team members, and we have for labs where we perform prototype design validation. We are part of the R&D department at Siemens Energy AB in Finspång and therefore our test measurements and methods are always evolving to meet new design validation demands and new technology developments. We are responsible for validation of both full engine prototypes as component prototyping.
Our Gas Services division offers Low-emission power generation through service and decarbonization. Zero or low emission power generation and all gas turbines under one roof, steam turbines and generators. Decarbonization opportunities through service offerings, modernization, and digitalization of the fleet.
Competitive financial compensation will be provided for a successfully completed thesis project.
