A Snapshot of Your Day
As a Blade Inspection Field Lead, you will lead and support drone-based blade inspection operations across assigned regions, ensuring inspections are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. You will coordinate field activities, mentor and train drone pilots, perform inspections using drones and crawlers, and serve as a technical resource for blade inspection processes. This role requires extensive travel and collaboration with field teams, while supporting Advanced Maintenance and O&M troubleshooting efforts as needed.
How You'll Make an Impact
- Lead and support drone-based and crawler blade inspection operations, ensuring compliance with company, customer, and regulatory requirements.
- Plan, coordinate, and execute field inspection activities while maintaining safety, quality, and operational excellence standards.
- Perform inspections of fiberglass components, including wind turbine blades and nacelles, documenting findings and recommended resolutions.
- Train, mentor, and provide technical guidance to drone pilots and inspection technicians to support workforce development.
- Review inspection data, prepare detailed inspection reports, and communicate complex damage assessments to customers and internal stakeholders.
- Assist with internal blade inspection initiatives, crawler operations, data collection, and project execution to ensure successful completion of field activities.
- Identify and implement process improvements that increase safety, productivity, efficiency, and quality while reducing non-value-added activities.
- Inspect, diagnose, adjust, and repair wind turbine components while maintaining compliance with established safety procedures.
- Support site Operations & Maintenance (O&M) teams and troubleshooting efforts during periods of downtime or as business needs require.
- Travel extensively across assigned regions and support projects throughout the Advanced Maintenance organization.
What You Bring
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in the wind industry or a similar field-based technical environment.
- FAA Part 107 Drone Pilot License required.
- Strong knowledge of blade inspection techniques, turbine safety practices, and wind turbine maintenance activities.
- Experience performing and documenting inspections, repairs, and generating technical reports.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word, as well as data management and report review processes.
- Ability to work at heights and in confined or enclosed spaces while following all safety requirements.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate technical findings and damage assessments.
- Demonstrated leadership ability with experience providing guidance, training, and support to team members.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and ability to maintain driving eligibility throughout employment.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer-sponsored work authorization.
- Ability and willingness to travel extensively, up to 95-100% of the time.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with gearbox and generator inspections and repairs.
- Familiarity with Siemens and/or Gamesa wind turbine platforms.
- Knowledge of Siemens Gamesa mechanical and electrical turbine operations.
