A Snapshot of Your Day

We are looking for an entrepreneurial Substation Technical Sales Manager to lead the sales and business development activities for our growing high voltage substation business. The Substation Technical Manager will be responsible to provide leadership for both Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) and AIS EPC substation project sales valued from several million to up to hundreds of million dollars. The role requires close coordination and teamwork with multiple international Siemens Energy internal and external stakeholders during the acquisition phase of the projects, including Tender Management, Engineering, and a broad spectrum of entities such as business partners, suppliers, energy utilities, developers, permitting agencies, regulators, etc. To meet these objectives, the role is structured around three core areas: Technical Sales, Customer Relationship & Market Development, and Bid Management & Project Coordination. This focus ensures the role holder can act as the primary technical liaison, manage complex customer needs, and drive the sales process from a position of deep product and application knowledge. Given the focus on technically complex substation projects, the ideal candidate will be a recognized solution specialist with a strong background in electrical engineering or similar field. They must possess significant experience in technical sales or a related field within the power industry, combined with advanced skills in negotiation, customer relationship management, and strategic problem-solving.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • 60% Technical Sales
    • Serve as the primary sales technical expert for substation solutions, acting as the interface between the customer and internal engineering, manufacturing, and program management teams.
    • Analyze customer technical specifications and requirements to design and propose tailored, complex substation solutions.
    • Prepare and conduct high-impact substation technical sales presentations for customers and company representatives.
    • Develop potential technical solutions, pricing considerations, and contract requirements for large-scale proposals
    • Manage the technical aspects of large or complex sales projects and bid processes with a high degree of autonomy
    • Collaborate with proposal, contract, and legal teams to ensure the technical feasibility and integrity of submitted bids.
    • Coach, review, and delegate work to lower-level professionals, sharing subject matter expertise on substation technologies and sales strategies.
    • Work closely with the key suppliers / partnering companies to optimize the overall solution.
    • Lead sales negotiations of multi-million-dollar projects
    • Develop & implement strategy for opportunities including contractual setups
  • 40% Customer Relationship & Market Development
    • Manage and cultivate relationships with key assigned customers, understanding their technical challenges and long-term strategic needs.
    • Investigate new applications or improvements to substation products and services in collaboration with customers to drive innovation.
    • Prepare and maintain accurate sales forecasts for the assigned portfolio, contributing to broader business planning.
    • Assess customer needs and suggest appropriate products, services, and solutions to protect and grow the business.
    • Understanding Market by balancing customer and business requirements

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field is required.
  • 8 or more years of experience in technical sales, application engineering, or a related role within the power transmission and distribution industry. Candidates with more experience can be considered for a higher level or vice-versa.
  • Demonstrated experience as a subject matter expert in managing large, complex technical sales projects.
  • Strong knowledge of substation design and products, GIS, and EPC construction projects & scheduling preferred.
