Job title: Product Designer/CAD Design Specialist

A Snapshot of Your Day

Join the Engineering team dedicated to steam turbines, involved in all stages from creation to upgrades. This team provides R&D for new and service products, new apparatus customer order engineering, and field & factory service of steam turbines, valves and related auxiliary components.

As a steam turbine product designer on this team, you will have broad responsibilities to ensure the integrity of Siemens-Energy’s steam turbine product definition. Your daily tasks will vary depending on the type of customer project assigned, but your primary responsibilities will be to develop steam turbines, valves, auxiliary components for new units, modernizing, and service applications. You may support our steam turbine product definition or modification to support field or factory service orders. You may develop new products, new upgrades, or new service solutions in R&D programs. You may support new unit customer order engineering. With all assigned projects, you will collaborate with a cross-organizational team to satisfy our customers and help Siemens-Energy be the world’s top energy sector company.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Collaborate with design engineers to develop steam turbines, valves, and auxiliary components for new unit, upgrade, and service application developments and orders.
  • Develop intricate 2D/3D layouts, detailed drawings, and component builds for steam turbine equipment and systems.
  • Create and validate 3D models for analysis and product definition.
  • Generate and revise engineering drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and order documents ensuring consistency to design standards and verification of form, fit, and function of parts and assemblies.
  • Develop, assess, and endorse manufacturing sketches, material lists (BOM), and process specifications for manufacturing, supply management, and customer use.
  • Support design reviews by preparing documentation and participating in technical reviews.
  • Maintain and compile materials, specifications, and engineering data for project documentation.
  • Assist with service repair workload management and ensure documentation aligns with design and customer requirements.
  • Prepare product definition structure to accurately issue product for manufacture and unit configuration updates.
  • Communicate technical, schedule, and cost issues to project teams and management

What You Bring

  • BSME, BSMET (Engineering Technology) or related field from accredited university/college. Will consider candidate with advance degree that has equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five or more years of related product definition, engineering work experience. Individuals who possess extra years of experience may be suitable for a higher-level role. Alternatively, candidates with fewer years of experience can be considered for a lower level.
  • Expert knowledge of 3D Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) program and the creation of engineering documents and reports.
  • Project or team experience with validated delivery of work in a technical environment. Ability to handle multiple projects.
  • Ability to lead / work well with intra-organizational teams (e.g.
  • Engineering, Manufacturing, Logistics, Projects, Procurement and Suppliers) to obtain consensus in developing new apparatus, modification, and repair product definition design details.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with internal teams (e.g. field and factory personnel, engineering teams, and management across various locations).
  • Ability to communicate optimally both verbally and in writing to internal teams or management.
  • Knowledge and experience in design and, or repair of products.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • Experienced user of SAP and TeamCenter or other, similar IT platforms
  • Experienced with 3D Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) programs, NX and, or CREO desired
  • Familiarity with steam turbine products, or repair methods for major equipment a plus
