Embark on an exciting journey with Siemens Energy’s Gas Services team through our two year Engineering Graduate Programme, based in Newcastle Upon Tyne. Our team provides essential technical support and outage services for gas turbines, generators, compressors, and steam turbines across the UK and offshore.

Your Role

As a Graduate Engineer, you will be fully immersed within our Engineering function from day one. Based in Newcastle Upon Tyne, you will be aligned to the department that best matches your technical strengths, interests, and development goals. This structure ensures you gain deep, meaningful experience in the area where you can make the greatest impact.

Throughout the programme, you will work alongside experienced engineers on real projects that support the delivery, maintenance, and optimisation of our products and services. You will also have opportunities to visit customer sites across the UK, where you will contribute to resolving live issues, supporting outages, and gaining first-hand insight into how our engineering solutions perform in the field.

This focused, hands-on approach is designed to broaden your knowledge, enhance your capabilities, and build a strong foundation for your future career within our Engineering organisation.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Technical Support: Provide first-line technical support for operational issues on our Siemens Energy fleet, ensuring smooth and efficient operations.
  • Outage Planning: Assist in the planning and preparation of outages for small or large gas turbines, generators, compressors, or steam turbines, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.
  • Local Service Centres: Collaborate with local service centres to provide engineering guidance for repairs and the production of parts for our extensive fleet.
  • Global Collaboration: Work with the wider Siemens Energy network from around the world to ensure the best technical responses are provided, leveraging global expertise.
  • On-Site Support: Attend site visits to support outages and service issues, gaining a deeper understanding and appreciation of turbine trains and their operations.

What You Bring

  • Educational Background: You must have graduated or be studying towards a degree (Graded 2:1 minimum) in Mechanical, Energy Systems, Aerospace, Aerospace, Aeronautical, Materials Science, Industrial or General Engineering.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Flexible, with the ability to connect with others and bring positive, forward-thinking ideas to the team.
  • Curiosity and Learning: A curious nature, willing to ask questions and learn from our highly experienced team.
  • Proactive Development: Seek out opportunities to strengthen your skills and enhance your knowledge, supporting both the business and your career development path.
  • Technical Understanding: Some understanding of principles such as CCGT operation, transformation of mechanical energy to electrical energy, and failure mechanisms is beneficial.
  • Societal Engagement: Willingness to engage in our Societal Engagement schemes, pushing the business further and representing us externally at events such as STEM initiatives.
  • Driving Ability: Due to the nature of the role, the ability to drive in the UK would be beneficial.

About the Team

Our Gas Services Engineering team in the UK & Ireland is a diverse and highly experienced community of more than 50 professionals, collectively offering over 1,000 years of engineering expertise. As a team, we support over half of the UK’s rotating power infrastructure and play a critical role in helping our customers transition toward a net-zero future.

Our Newcastle Upon Tyne site, established in 1889, is the historic home of the Parsons steam turbine. This legacy continues to influence our work today as we support not only steam turbines but also gas turbines, compressors, generators, and a range of exciting new technologies.

  • Annual Salary Circa £32,000
