A Snapshot of Your Day

The EHS Waste Technician is responsible for the facilitation of waste management processes with support from the EHS team.

This position reports directly to the site EHS Manager which is part of the Environmental Quality and Safety (EQS) team for the Charlotte Energy Hub.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Operates waste handling equipment and transports waste to designated storage areas.
  • Receives, assigns, and segregates waste; consolidates streams for shipment.
  • Inspects storage areas for leaks, spills, and misplacement of drums.
  • Maintains inspection logs and regulatory documentation per established systems.
  • Responds to emergencies and collaborates with EHS team on safety programs.
  • Independently manages daily tasks and supports compliance reporting.

What You Bring

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, the ability to evaluate options and make decisions, work as a team player, and contribute toward team goals.

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience with an Associate’s Degree or equivalent in EHS or manufacturing; certifications (e.g., RCRA, HAZWOPER, DOT, OSHA) required.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA and DOT regulations and their impact on operations.
  • Experience in hazardous waste management, training, and cross-functional operations preferred.
  • Must be physically capable of outdoor work, lifting, standing, stooping, and using hand tools; respirator use and passing a Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments including EHS, operations, maintenance, training, and contracted services.

About the Team  

The Charlotte EHS team provides coaching, support and consultation as needed to support the overall Health, Safety and Environmental programs across the campus. The EHS department will audit these programs to ensure execution. Additionally, the EHS department is responsible for associated metrics collection and reporting, campus wide communications and weekly/ monthly management education and program status updates. Finally, the EHS department uses the following to determine the state of campus compliance with applicable legal requirements to include permits and licenses:

  • Internal management system audits
  • Self-inspections
  • Regulatory inspections by external state and federal entities
  • Review of campus aspects and hazards list
  • Review and update of campus permits
  • Due diligence pertaining to specific new rules
  • Attendance of state hosted training seminars
  • External management system audits and EHS legal compliance audits
