Job Posting - Instrument Controls and Electrical Technician

A Snapshot of Your Day (position overview)

Under the general direction of the Maintenance Manager this position is responsible for the technical activities in the areas of Instrumentation and Control (I&C) and Electrical Systems. The primary responsibility of this job is to conduct I&C and Electrical functions safely, reliably, efficiently and in full compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.

  • We will perform instrument calibrations, field checks, maintenance and repair on control equipment or other equipment, as assigned. Maintains and installs control, monitoring, alarm and indicating systems and their individual components. This includes, but is not limited to, protective relays, turbine controls, voltage regulators, invertors and battery charger controls, motors, lighting and grounding.
  • We will perform maintenance on high voltage equipment, breakers, and switchgear. While updating management systems and other administrative tasks as assigned. Maintain logs of problems, repairs, and downtime.
  • Performs maintenance of DCS and PLC systems.

How You’ll Make an Impact (responsibilities)

  • Maintains all facility Electrical and Controls equipment through corrective, predictive, and planned activities.
  • Assists in the investigation of plant problems, incidents, accidents, and unusual events; provides input and recommendations for reports and follow-up plans.
  • Receives training to further knowledge, prepare for advancement and maintain safety awareness. Trains others to gain knowledge as required.
  • Follows safety/environmental rules and regulations. Implements safe working practices and immediately identifies hazards and recommends and/or implement repairs.
  • Self-motivated and works with minimal direction to stay productive.
  • Available to work overtime both scheduled and unscheduled, on days off and beyond regular work schedule and to perform shift work, including holidays, nights and weekends, when required.
  • Follows all safety/environmental policies, procedures, rules and participates in training. Promotes the Company’s OneWay to Zero Harm vision through actions and conduct
  • Follows all Company policies and expectations and behaves in a manner that promotes the Company’s values and positively effects morale.

What You Bring (requirements)

  • Ability to read, write and speak in the English language and perform basic mathematical computations, high school diploma or equivalent preferred. Associate degree/certification in electrical or controls field preferred.
  • Five years of experience as an industrial electrician or demonstrated ability as an I&C Technician in an industrial environment.
  • Knowledge of large generators, transformers, 4160/480-volt switchgear and systems, instruments, controls, and relaying equipment
  • Demonstrated ability in electrical instrument calibration and repair, and programming sophisticated electrical equipment.
  • Ability to read and understand P&IDs, electrical, and mechanical drawings.
  • Ability to work at various heights from aerial lifts, ladders, and scaffolding, and in areas of high noise and temperature extremes.
  • Ability to work scheduled hours, overtime both scheduled and unscheduled, on days off, and beyond regular work schedule. Ability to perform shift work, including holidays, nights, and weekends, when required.
