A Snapshot of Your Day
This role in the Grid Technologies Engineering team for Latin America is designed to support the growing demand for FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission Systems) and energy storage projects, both regionally and globally. It ensures continuity across engineering activities by covering the full project lifecycle—from initial concept and detailed design to on-site execution and final handover—helping the business unit meet its expansion goals.
The position focuses on three main areas: control and protection system design, system implementation and commissioning, and technical project support. It requires a strong background in electrical instrumentation and control engineering, with hands-on experience in system design, simulation, and commissioning, along with proficiency in relevant industry tools and an appropriate engineering degree.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Control & Protection Design: Define architecture and develop open/closed loop control schemes for STATCOM and FSC systems, ensuring compliance with grid requirements, stability, and dynamic performance.
- Control Modeling & Optimization: Design, simulate, and tune regulators (voltage, reactive power, current, damping) using tools like MATLAB/Simulink, validating system behavior under normal and fault conditions.
- Protection Coordination: Design and integrate protection functions aligned with control philosophy, ensuring fast, selective fault response and safe system operation.
- Implementation & Commissioning: Configure control/protection devices (PLCs, RTUs, IEDs), support FAT and on-site commissioning, and troubleshoot issues to ensure compliance with technical and grid standards.
- Technical Project Support: Collaborate with cross-functional teams and customers, provide field support, maintain documentation, and participate in technical reviews with strong focus on quality and safety.
- Tools, Skills & Knowledge: Apply expertise in HIL simulation (RTDS/RSCAD), SCADA integration, and communication protocols (IEC 61850, Modbus, etc.), with strong problem-solving, documentation, and bilingual communication skills.
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Control and Automation Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience control and protection systems for high-voltage applications (e.g., substations, power transmission).
- Experience with manufacturers and integrators of control and protection systems, engineering firms, and power transmission companies.
- Fluency in which languages: English and Spanish required!
- Availability for domestic and international travel ranging from 2 to 6 months (maximum) in duration. Approximately 40% of the year spent traveling. CREA registration required.
