A Snapshot of Your Day 

The Electrical Systems engineering team is responsible for the specification, selection, system integration, cost calculation and quality control, for electrical equipment used in gas and steam turbine power plants. Electrical equipment in scope of the Electrical Systems team include Power Control Centers, Static Excitation Systems, Startup Frequency Converters, Protective Relaying Systems, Low Voltage Power Distribution Systems, Secondary Backup Power Supplies and cable raceway designs. The Electrical Systems team provides general electrical requirements for the broader engineering community to support specification, selection, integration and installation of equipment such as electric motors, instrumentation and sensors relevant for the process control of power plant applications. 


The successful applicant for this position will serve as a specialist for electrical AC/DC motors and control schemes of electric motors and will work in an international and inter-disciplinary team setting. Tasks include the collaboration with customers, vendors, various engineering disciplines, bid management and supply chain management to develop and implement technical solutions ensuring highest customer satisfaction and successful project implementation by Siemens Energy. 


How You’ll Make an Impact 
  • Development of electrical concepts and system designs for reference power plants and project-specific adaptations for proposal activities and new unit project implementations
  • Design, specification, selection, and testing of electric motors and motor control concepts, including variable frequency drives, motor starters, and motor circuit protection in low voltage switchgear applications
  • Creation, review, release, and maintenance of technical concepts, technical design specifications, test requirements, and quality control documentation for electric motors and their power supply and control equipment
  • Support for root cause analyses and implementation of corrective actions related to electric motors and control equipment
  • Provision of technical support to bid management during proposal activities and to supply chain management for supplier development and supplier/product qualification
  • Contribution to cost value analyses, including development, implementation, and tracking of design-to-cost measures, as well as continuous improvement of global engineering processes, tools, and documentation
What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant engineering discipline or higher combined with a minimum of 5 years of experience in electric motor applications 
  • Expert knowledge in the design, specification and operation of electric motors driving mechanical loads such as pumps and fans in industrial use cases
  • Experience in the design, specification and commissioning/servicing of electric motors, variable frequency drives and motor circuit protection
  • Proficient in the interpretation and application of relevant international and local standards governing the design and installation of electric motors and their control equipment including IEC, IEEE, VDE, EN etc.
  • Ability to focus on tasks requiring attention to detail such as design calculations for electrical systems and able to handle multiple tasks in parallel while meeting high quality standards and set timelines
  • Excellent team player and communicator; fluent in German and English (written and verbal)
  • Ability to travel internationally for short durations if required (approximately 10%). 
  • Experience in interpreting technical contract requirements and in technical consultation of other stakeholders
