Director, Government Affairs (Federal)
A Snapshot of Your Day (position overview)
The Director of Government Affairs will help develop Siemens Energy’s federal advocacy and public policy strategy, advancing legislative and regulatory priorities before Congress, federal agencies, and the Administration. Based in Washington, DC, this role is responsible for developing and executing strategic engagement plans, building strong relationships with policymakers and key stakeholders, and advising senior leadership on emerging policy developments that impact the company.
How You’ll Make an Impact (responsibilities)
- Develop and execute comprehensive government affairs strategies to support North American business objectives and improve the regulatory environment.
- Represent the company before Congress, federal agencies, the White House, and relevant trade associations and coalitions.
- Build and maintain strong bipartisan relationships with Members of Congress, congressional staff, administration officials, and key opinion leaders.
- Provide expert strategic counsel to senior business leadership on the potential consequences of emerging legislation and policy trends.
- Develop clear and concise position papers, legislative summaries, and briefing materials for internal and external stakeholders.
- Monitor, analyze, and report on legislative, regulatory, and political developments affecting the company.
- Draft position papers, testimony, comment letters, briefing materials, and talking points for internal and external use.
- Coordinate advocacy efforts with internal teams, including legal, communications, and business leadership.
- Identify opportunities for proactive engagement, including hearings, briefings, coalition activities, and grassroots initiatives.
- Manage external consultants, lobbyists, or trade association relationships as needed.
- Ensure all lobbying and advocacy activities strictly comply with all relevant federal and state ethical standards and legal reporting requirements.
- Manage internal workflows for tracking government affairs activities and report on progress and impact to leadership.
What You Bring (requirements)
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (JD, MPP, MP A, or MBA) preferred.
- 8–12 years of increasingly responsible experience in government affairs, public policy, Capitol Hill, federal agencies, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of the federal legislative and regulatory process.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and advance policy positions in a complex political environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience briefing senior executives.
- Proven relationship building skills with policymakers and stakeholders across party lines.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
