A Snapshot of Your Day

A day in the life of a Senior Data Engineer within the Data-Driven Project Modelling (DPM) team at Siemens Energy is a blend of business problem-solving, technical design, and hands-on development. You work closely with finance and warranty management experts to understand complex business requirements and translate them into scalable data solutions. As part of a small Agile Scrum team, you independently drive technical initiatives, design and enhance data models, build robust data pipelines, and develop backend platform capabilities in Azure Databricks. You play a key role in advancing the DPM model, which provides critical insights into corrective costs across global wind projects. Along the way, you collaborate with stakeholders across functions and geographies, ensuring that data products are reliable, maintainable, and aligned with business objectives. Success in this role requires a high degree of ownership, curiosity, and the ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • As a Senior Data Engineer, you will contribute to the technical management and development of the team’s cloud data platform and data models which are currently built on Azure Databricks.
  • Develop and maintain the Data-Driven Project Modelling (DPM) engine, following DevOps best practices to support strategic decision-making, risk assessments, business cases, and financial reporting.
  • Collaborate and bring positive energy to a multinational team of technical and business experts to translate business logic into data solution development.
  • Provide support and documentation for end-users to move towards a transparent self-service usage of DPM’s developed applications and solutions.
  • Be proactive, take accountability and independently suggest and implement innovative solutions to create value for the team’s key stakeholders.

What You Bring

  • Extensive experience (minimum 3 – 5 years) as data engineer including hands-on knowledge in at least one high-level programming language (e.g. Python, or similar), SQL, as well as modern large-scale data processing tools such as Apache Spark, or similar. In a previous role, you should have gained deep understanding of ELT/ETL processes, data governance, modelling concepts like Star and Snowflake, modern lakehouse architectures, and interfaces to data visualization tools like Power BI.
  • Proven experience with at least one of the major cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP), and knowledge of common DevOps best practices, such as agile frameworks, version control, CI/CD, unit testing, etc.
  • Collaborative mindset in an international environment, taking ownership of developed and inherited data solutions, as well as a high level of personal integrity, self-motivation, and independence.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills with a customer centric approach, delivering high-quality results under pressure. Furthermore, a willingness to collaborate with non-technical finance stakeholders to build solutions that are both technically scalable and give immediate value to stakeholders.
  • Experience with state managed infrastructure-as-code tools, knowledge about financial processes, specifically warranty management within finance, or rolling out agentic AI solutions in production is a plus.
