A Snapshot of Your Day

From early stages of the system planning of a project, the Settings Engineer shall assess the performance capability of each individual item of plant and examine all possible modes of system normal operation and consider all normal transient phases of the system. Also, the Settings Engineer shall examine all possible failure modes of the system and plant and propose/specify the correct and effective protection settings.

In addition to having complete knowledge and understanding of protection device and scheme principles of operation, the Settings Engineer shall also have thorough understanding of Power Systems both in the normal operational state and in the abnormal faulty state and can model and analyse the power system.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Building strong relationships - Maintain close working relationships with the CP Grid Access AC Windfarm, HVDC and Substation Team to ensure that UK engineers remain integrated as part of the wider CP team and develop in line with their other team peers.
  • Continuous improvement - Analyze the issues experienced during delivery and transfer the lessons learned to the new projects to ensure repeated issues do not occur.
  • Safety and integrity - We pro-actively intervene and speak up when we experience poor behaviors or actions.

What You Bring
  • Design experience within the Electricity Transmission and Distribution industry.
  • Degree Qualified in Electrical Engineering.
  • Have detailed understanding of Power Systems both in the normal operational state and in the abnormal faulty state and can model and analyses the power system.
  • Understanding of protection device and scheme principles of operation.
  • Examining failure modes of the system and plant and propose/specify the correct and effective protection settings.
  • Responsible for the interpretation and analysis of fault records and recommending settings policy changes if required.
  • Review commissioning switching programmes on a circuit-by-circuit basis to extract commissioning O/C requirements.
  • Responsible to produce protection and control settings for 13.9kV up to 400kV substations and LVAC systems.
  • Produce protection co-ordination studies and settings reports for 13.9kV up to 400kV substations and LVAC systems.
  • Assisting in the preparation of templates to ensure adhering to latest specifications and processes.
  • Liaises with Project/Protection Engineers to ensure full scope of work is covered.
  • Delivering departmental work packages on time and to budget.
  • Attending technical meetings with client to ensure technical satisfaction.
  • Abide by all business compliance requirements in line with Company policies, for example Business Conduct Guidelines & Confidential Information.
  • To actively contribute to the business improvement programme within the Engineering Department.
