About the Role
Snapshot of a day
As a Project Lead Engineer Studies HVDC Control & Protection, you will work within a team of HVDC project management and engineering specialists to design and deliver full HVDC control and protection solutions for both wind farm grid connections and interconnectors making use of a new transient network analysis laboratory located in Raleigh.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Dynamic performance studies within tender and project execution of HVDC projects
- Optimizing the dynamic behavior of the HVDC converter (e.g., black-start and network restoration, grid forming controls, multi-terminal systems) according to customer and national grid code requirements
- Analyzing sub-synchronous torsional/control interactions and the harmonic converter impedance, as well as potential interactions between the HVDC converter and other controlled devices in the power system
- Developing and validating simulation models for diverse EMT simulation tools (e.g., PSCAD/EMTDC, Matlab/Simulink, EMTP-RV)
- Customer trainings for simulation models and presentation of study results to customer
- Continuous improvement and standardization of simulation models, study procedures and methods, processes in project execution as well as documentation of results
- Supporting the project management in technical discussions, participating in customer meetings, and coordinating external partners
What You Bring
- 5+ years of experience.
- University degree or equivalent experience in electrical power engineering or control engineering in combination with PhD degree and experience in power engineering industry
- Good knowledge in high voltage applications, power transmission systems, power electronics and HVDC technology
- Expertise in control engineering and modeling of HVDC systems in the time domain and frequency domain
- Professional user of typical power system simulation programs (e.g., PSCAD/EMTDC, Matlab/Simulink, EMTP-RV)
- Proficient in English
