As a Power Systems Consultant, you will drive the energy transition and create a more sustainable future. As part of a distributed team of motivated and passionate individuals, you demonstrate your technical background to undertake technical studies related to electricity generation and transmission. You will work closely with our customers to develop customized solutions that enhance the flexibility of network operation and utilization and improve the environmental impacts of the power industry. You will guide them in selecting optimal solutions that meet their specific needs and be an integral part of a project with a real impact on the world.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Leading engineering consulting works by engaging with clients and aligning team members from different technical backgrounds within a multicultural environment
- Overseeing the execution of power systems analyses, planning transmission, distribution, and industrial networks, and grid interconnection studies of large generation, storage and loads.
- Engaging with clients to work towards successful grid connection requests, highlighting potential risks and commercial implications
- Supporting integration of power electronic devices, renewable generation, storage devices, HVDCs, etc., into AC grids (from feasibility to FEED and final stage with actual OEM models)
- Performing high-frequency phenomena analysis, including harmonic distortion, transient overvoltage, TRV, missing zero-crossings, and equipment energization studies.
- Addressing new customers and showcasing our portfolio of offerings.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field (Master’s or Ph.D. degree in power engineering is preferred)
- 5 – 8 years of experience in conducting power system analysis in steady and transient states. Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles and power systems theory related to electricity generation and transmission
- Sophisticated skills in Inverter-based Resources (IBR), and application of MVDC/HVDC and FACTS devices in power generation and transmission systems. Expert knowledge in transmission planning and operating studies (132 kV – 500 kV), power system performance analyses including load flow, short-circuit, dynamic stability, voltage stability, protection coordination, and system strength analysis.
- Experience in power system simulation programs (e.g. PSS®E, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD/EMTDC). Skills in other software such as CDEGS, ETAP, SKM PTW, and MATLAB/Simulink are highly valued.
- In-depth understanding of grid connection procedures and Grid Code compliance studies, modelling requirements and study work involved.
- Relevant work experience and communicating with Australian Energy Market Operators (AEMO), Transmission/Distribution System Operators (TSO/DSO), and developers in the energy sector.
- Hands-on expertise in programming tools such as Python, FORTRAN, MATLAB, etc.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with diverse customers. Flexibility to travel as needed, up to 40%.
