A Snapshot of Your Day

We are looking for a highly skilled Research and Development Engineer (f/m/d) to join our team and develop design methods and software for the damage-tolerant design of large gas turbine systems! The ideal candidate will have experience in the application of damage-tolerant concepts (e.g. fracture mechanics) and a deep understanding of gas turbine components and design. Responsibilities include planning, developing, and implementing mechanical integrity methods and technologies for gas turbines. This role involves evaluating component mechanical integrity for different failure mechanisms, including fatigue (LCF/TMF, HCF, Fracture Mechanics), and Creep as well as the impact of various types of uncertainties. You will also prepare engineering documents and presentations to communicate technical results, ensuring the overall success of design projects in terms of time, cost, and quality!

How You’ll Make an Impact
  • Develop and implement fracture mechanics design tools and durability methods for gas-turbine components, focusing on Low Cycle Fatigue (LCF), High Cycle Fatigue (HCF), Thermo-Mechanical Fatigue (TMF), Fracture Mechanics, and Creep
  • Evaluate and assess the mechanical integrity of gas turbine components through sophisticated engineering methods and post-processing techniques
  • Plan and implement the development of mechanical integrity technologies and durability strategies to optimize the performance and lifespan of gas turbines
  • Create engineering documents and technical presentations to communicate analysis results, ensuring design projects meet time, cost, and quality targets
  • Develop and integrate system simulation frameworks, performance models, and algorithms to simulate operational environments and system behaviors
  • Perform trade studies, operational analyses, and mission effectiveness analyses, supporting decision-making processes for alternative system architectures and operational models
What You Bring
  • University degree or equivalent experience in engineering sciences, mechanical engineering, aeronautical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics, or related field
  • 5+ years’ experience in gas or aero turbine industry and proven knowledge incl. a strong background in mechanical integrity
  • Strong statistics and mathematics skills
  • Proficient programming experience (Python, bash, C, C++, Linux) as well as proficiency in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience (Ansys, Abaqus, or similar)
  • Familiarity with fatigue and fracture mechanics.
  • Very good English language skills, German preferable
