About the Role
A Snapshot of Your Day
As a Turbine Structural Mechanical Integrity Stress Lifing Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the mechanical integrity and longevity of gas turbine components. Your day will involve conducting finite element analysis (FEA) to assess static and dynamic stresses, collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance component lifing, and refining structural models based on test data and fleet experience. Working within Siemens Energy’s hybrid model, you will have the flexibility to balance office collaboration and independent analysis.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Perform static/transient, linear/non-linear thermal and thermomechanical FEA of gas turbine components such as blades, vanes, rotors, and casings.
- Generate component integrity and life statements considering HCF, LCF, TMF, and Creep.
- Collaborate with Mechanical Design, Heat Transfer, and Material Science teams to develop duty-based lifing strategies.
- Analyse and optimise turbine component designs to meet life targets.
- Conduct root cause analysis, weighted decision analysis, and design of experiments.
- Specify component and engine test requirements and calibrate structural models using test data.
- Develop and maintain method documents, test and validate code upgrades, and improve tool chain integration.
- Present findings and recommendations through reports and presentations.
What You Bring
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree with significant mechanical or structural design content in Aerospace, PowerGen, Turbomachinery, or Automotive fields.
- Minimum of two years' experience in finite element stress analysis and component life calculation.
- Strong knowledge of material behaviour, failure modes, and testing methods under cyclic and steady conditions, particularly at high temperatures.
- Competency in FEA software, particularly ABAQUS; experience with ANSYS, NX-SimCenter, or RR SC03 is also relevant.
- Ability to validate results using 1D methods such as hand calculations.
- Strong problem-solving skills with an analytical approach to engineering challenges.
- Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams, with effective communication skills.
- A deep understanding of stress theory and a commitment to continuous development in the field.
