About the Role
A Snapshot of Your Day
Ready to push materials to their limits? Siemens Energy is looking for a curious and driven Mechanical or Aerospace Engineer with a passion for Structural Integrity to help shape the future of gas turbine technology. In this role, you’ll work at the intersection of extreme temperatures, advanced materials, and cutting‑edge engineering developing technologies that directly influence how gas turbine components are designed, manufactured, and serviced.
As part of our innovative Technology group, you’ll tackle fascinating challenges like predicting how materials behave under extreme heat and stress to meet next‑generation energy demands. You’ll collaborate with a global team of experts, dig deep into failure analysis, and turn complex problems into practical, creative solutions. From developing and validating new life‑prediction methods to supporting advanced material testing and creating calculation codes for complex FEA applications, your work will have real, visible impact on critical business decisions and on the future of energy itself.
If you love solving tough engineering puzzles and want your work to matter, this is your stage.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Develop innovative life‑prediction calculation methods to accurately capture the complex thermal and mechanical loading experienced by gas turbine blades and vanes under extreme operating conditions.
- Coordinate and oversee material testing efforts to support and validate microstructure‑dependent lifing design tools, ensuring accurate representation of material behavior under turbine operating conditions.
- Assist Lifing by coordinating specimen testing, processing and analyzing data, and applying results to component life predictions, with specific focus on casting deviations such as small and large grain structures and material porosity.
- Collaborate with Lifing and Materials experts to drive efficient material testing and translate results to component applications, supporting current Manufacturing and Design needs.
What You Bring
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field
- Working knowledge of key material failure modes, including fatigue, creep, and fracture mechanics
- Experience evaluating the impact of microstructural features and geometric variations on material life, including their influence on durability and failure behavior.
- Hands-on experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA), including a solid understanding of element types, boundary conditions, simulation methodologies, and the application of inelastic material properties.
- Experience with laboratory material testing or test coordination, including characterization of material properties and development of corresponding statistical distributions for engineering analysis.
- Strong background in data analysis, curve fitting, and statistical methods, applied to interpreting material behavior and supporting life‑prediction models.
- Highly motivated, proactive, and self‑directed, with the ability to take ownership of work and drive tasks forward independently
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary and global teams
- Export Control Requirement (ECC): Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
Preferred Qualifications:
- Programming experience like MATLAB, Python, C/C++, JAVA, Linux, etc.
- Characterization of Nickel superalloys
- Microstructure and impact on failure modes
- Probabilistic simulations with multiple parameter variations
