About the Role
A Snapshot of Your Day
High and Low -Speed Balancer (or turbo compressor rotors) job involves setting up, operating, and maintaining specialized facilities to dynamically balance large rotating components like Compressor and turbine rotors, requiring mechanical skills for assembly (bearings, seals, probes), calculating weight moves, and ensuring safety and quality by documenting data and following procedures for high-speed testing.
A skilled Rotating Equipment Balancer with hands-on experience in operating high-speed and low-speed balancing machines for turbine and compressor rotors. The ideal candidate will be proficient in balancing methodologies, rotor diagnostics, and documentation of balancing results, with a strong safety mindset and the ability to support workshop development initiatives.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Install bearings, pedestals, adapter plates, oil seals, and vibration probes; connect to control, fuel, and lube systems. Adhere to strict safety protocols, perform preventive maintenance, and keep machines clean.
- Set up, operate, and calibrate low-speed and high-speed balancing machines for various rotor types.
- Calculate weight moves using computer software or manual vector methods and determine residual imbalance, correction planes, and correction methods
- Use cranes (jib, overhead) and forklifts to move heavy components.
- Complete electronic quality control documents and shop notes for shift handovers. Record all balancing data: initial and residual imbalance, correction magnitude/location, number of runs, acceptance criteria, final status. Generate balancing certificates/reports with plots and machine parameters, including rotor ID, speed, bearing type, support conditions, and environmental notes.
- Maintain digital records in MS Office (Excel templates, Word reports) and workshop systems
What You Bring
- Diploma or Technical Certification in Mechanical Engineering with 15+ years of experience in rotating equipment balancing (both low-speed and high-speed preferred).
- Proven ability with different international balancing systems. Familiarity with turbine/compressor rotor construction (impellers, blades, couplings, keys, shrunk fits). Safety-first mindset with excellent situational awareness.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel for data logging/plots; Word for reports; PowerPoint for RCA/briefings).
- Multi-tasking and adaptability in a fast-paced environment with creative mindset for process improvement and innovation. Calm under pressure; structured approach to high-speed operations.
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities with strong analytical problem-solving; understanding influences coefficients and tolerance management.
- Team player; collaborates with machining, inspection, and QA.
