About the Role
Horizontal Milling Machinist – Large Generator Rotors
A Snapshot of Your Day
The skilled technician for horizontal milling prepares and runs CNC horizontal boring machines to build different aspects of large generator rotor shafts.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Fabricate and bore attributes on substantial electrical generator rotor axles, commonly composed of 50 to 70-ton high alloy steel forgings.
- Set up and operate one or more of the following machine tools: Ingersoll CNC Floor-Type Horizontal Boring Mill (19.5 meter travel), Giddings & Lewis FTR3500 CNC Floor-Type Horizontal Boring Mill (4 meter travel), Giddings & Lewis FTR5000 CNC Floor-Type Horizontal Boring Mill (14 meter travel), and Ingersoll CNC Gantry-Type Multi-Spindle Mill, as well as various manual drills and mills.
- Instruct and/or mentor employees in the Siemens Energy Apprenticeship Program.
- Engage in continuous improvement by applying 5S methodology as a component of a Lean production system.
What You Bring
- A high school or associate’s degree with 4+ years of manual and CNC milling experience, preferably using steady rest supports
- Solid understanding of G- and M-codes
- Ability to read and interpret sophisticated drawings, specifications, charts, and tables
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments
- Ability to obtain fork truck and crane license through Siemens Energy internal certification programs
- Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to achieve a Silver Level or higher ACT® WorkKeys® National Career Readiness Certificate

Zero or low emission power generation and all gas turbines under one roof, steam turbines and generators. Decarbonization opportunities through service offerings, modernization, and digitalization of the fleet.
