About the Role
A Snapshot of Your Day
As a Combustion Lab Technician, you will support the quality assurance process for combustion components used in large gas turbines through materials testing and analysis. Your day will include preparing metallurgical samples, evaluating thermal spray coatings using microscopy, conducting hardness and mechanical testing, and documenting results to support manufacturing quality requirements. You will work closely with engineers, production teams, and quality personnel to ensure products meet specifications while maintaining laboratory equipment, safety standards, and accurate technical records.
How You'll Make an Impact
- Prepare metallurgical test samples through sectioning, mounting, polishing, and other established laboratory techniques for microscopic evaluation.
- Conduct microscopic analysis of thermal spray coatings, including assessment of porosity, cracks, unmelts, and other characteristics to verify compliance with quality specifications.
- Perform hardness testing, mechanical testing, and support advanced materials characterization activities to evaluate material properties and performance.
- Operate, maintain, and calibrate laboratory equipment including microscopes, polishing equipment, saws, and hardness testers.
- Document, analyze, and communicate test results through accurate technical reports and collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams.
- Maintain compliance with laboratory safety, environmental, health, and quality procedures while supporting routine laboratory operations and process control activities.
What You Bring
- Associate's Degree or higher in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Chemistry, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field. Equivalent combination of education and relevant laboratory experience may be considered.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a metallurgical, materials testing, or quality laboratory environment.
- Experience preparing and evaluating metallurgical samples using microscopy techniques; experience with thermal spray coatings is preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, specifications, and testing procedures.
- Experience operating laboratory testing equipment and preparing accurate technical documentation and reports.
- Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.
