Siemens Energy NDE Project Engineer

Specialty Services product area is based at the Pittsburgh Service Center in Mount Pleasant, PA.  Specialty Services is responsible for performing non-destructive examination and specialty inspections at Siemens and other OEM power plant sites globally, with a primary focus in the Americas. 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND POSITION DESCRIPTION:

We have a need for a skilled Full Time NDE Project Engineer. Our field NDE project engineer plans the execution of nondestructive inspection services projects at power plant sites across the globe, primarily in the Americas including the United States, Canada, Central and South America.  

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Provide engineering and supervisory support to the technicians’ that perform inspections of combustion turbines, steam turbines and generators, including balance of plant equipment such as heat exchangers and piping at our customers’ power plant.
  • Travel (up to 20% annually for this position) to Combustion Turbine and Steam Turbine sites and develop, support or perform field NDE Inspections per Siemens requirements.
  • Support customer power plant outage planning and production control to ensure the timely delivery of tools, personnel and field inspection activities through the application of field service systems and procedures.
  • Responsible for the development of new and continuous improvement of existing NDE applications for use in the field
  • Develop detailed procedures (may be operations, training, maintenance, qualification test, or inspection) for work on equipment and systems used in power plants.
  • Stay ahead of technology and new developments in NDE - investigate new NDE technologies and applications to solve maintenance problems.
  • Be the liaison with Siemens and Customer teams during the development of new NDE techniques.
  • Prepare training materials and provide classroom and laboratory training to other NDE personnel.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS:

·         BS Engineering Degree or equivalent technical training and experience.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Interpersonal skills associated with a customer facing role.
  • Computer skills with proficiency using Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office programs: Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills; able to clearly and concisely express information (or data) to non-technical associates, peers, customers and management.
  • Must be Self-Driven and resourceful to achieve goals independently as well as work well in groups.
  • Very strong attention to detail and the ability to deliver the highest quality work in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Flexibility to adjust and thrive in an environment with changing requirements, schedules and priorities for multiple projects or assignments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within teams - discuss ideas, make recommendations and help to reach team consensus to move forward.
  • Innovative, creative, willing to share and explore new ideas.
  • Must be able to pass extended background check for unescorted access to Nuclear power facilities.

DESIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Certifiable in a minimum of 5 ASNT NDT Level II Certifications (UT, ET, MT, VT, PT, RT, etc.)
  • Knowledge related to the inspection of turbine and generator components.
  • Proficiency in using CAD software.
  • Project management experience is a plus.
  • Experience with product and service development using Design for Six Sigma.
  • Quality assurance background.
