A Snapshot of Your Day

The Technical Support Engineer will be part of the Siemens Energy Operation & Maintenance Engineering Support Team, supporting our fleet of Combined Cycle plants, which we operate under long-term contracts on behalf of customers. The role entails reviewing electrical technical issues and possible modifications and repairs on our Combined Cycle Power Plants fleet. You may unexpectedly receive a call from a plant in another state or country in the North American or Latin America region needing help on an electrical issue! Can you help? It could be something you hadn’t worked on previously – can you come up with a strategy to move forward?

How You’ll Make an Impact
  • Act as a resource for plant O&M management to resolve immediate electrical operational concerns, forced outages, or similar events.
  • Collaborate with the various Siemens engineering groups to ensure a successful resolution to craft/maintenance/operational issues identified at O&M facilities.
  • Take ownership and follow issues to closure and successful resolution.
  • Review recommended product modifications and improvements for efficient applications.
  • Advocate and develop innovative ideas and solutions for the fleet.
What You Bring
  • BS/BA or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of successful experience in industrial environments
  • Motivated self-starter that can identify and complete tasks with minimal direction. Standout team member with a “can do” attitude!
  • Comprehension of electrical schematics, Protection schemes from HV to LV systems, Large Generator protection, HV Switchyard protection, and relay settings and analysis
  • SCADA and Control System Interfaces Testing and Commissioning Power Controls
  • Familiarity with large HV oil-filled transformers, excitation, and SFC systems
  • Understanding of, and experience in, large rotating equipment, Steam and Gas Turbines, Generators, and DCS systems associated with Electrical, Instrumentation, and Control systems
  • Familiarity of backup Diesel Generators DC Systems and battery chargers
  • Knowledge of large electrical power-plant equipment maintenance methodologies
  • Physical requirements include sitting/standing and possibility of working on feet for 12 hour periods. Requires stair and ladder climbing and on occasion entering a confined space. Protective equipment must be worn when on-site (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, etc.).
  • The position occasionally requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by accessibility to personnel, equipment, and plant conditions.
  • Up to 20% travel including onsite presence during scheduled and forced outages, special projects, and customer meetings. This could be short notice before travel.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without the need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.
