Siemens Energy Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) group is looking for an energetic, intelligent and focused civil structural engineer to work on High Voltage substation projects. The GIS group is based in Raleigh NC, the state capital city and a dynamic growing city with many social activities and a perfect location between coast and mountains.

The GIS group is different in being a close-knit group of engineers, project managers, sales and installation staff working together in a friendly informal environment. This makes for a great working place, with plenty of support between disciplines. Work is a mixture of office and home based.


How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Prepare calculations including seismic requirements, drawings and specifications for grading, buildings, foundations, steel structures, overhead conductors, and rigid bus.
  • Develop conceptual designs for pricing purposes.
  • Perform detailed civil and structural drawings and calculations for construction of high voltage substations in the US.
  • Review and approve engineering packages from consultants.
  • Review and approve manufacturer’s technical documentation.
  • Ensure internal and outsourced engineering is in compliance with project requirements, customer specifications, governing standards, and constructability.
  • Ensure that the engineering deliverables meet the target schedule dates, makes aware the Project Manager of possible delays or risk in the particular project.
  • Support Proposal and Project Execution teams in the execution of a project and in customer meetings.
  • The candidate should be flexible to travel locally and internationally to customer meetings and to project sites. Approximate travel is 20%.


What You Bring 

  • 3 years or more of experience in Civil and Structural Engineering for High Voltage, Distribution, and Generation projects for Utility and Industrial customers.
  • BS in Civil/Structural Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering License is required.
  • Extensive knowledge of structural engineering design standards including IBC, ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC, and IEEE 693
  • Experience with design of High Voltage Gas-Insulated Substations, Air-Insulated Substations, projects in the U.S is preferred.
  • Knowledge of discipline specific software such as SAP 2000, REVIT, Inventor
  • Ability to create construction drawings in AutoCAD
  • Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.
  • As a federal contractor, Siemens Energy continues to monitor federal and state legal guidelines regarding the COVID-19 vaccine mandate. About the Team

The HV GIS enegineering team is made up of around 12 engineers of different disciplines. This team works within the main team of around 40 total, consisting of  project management, site installation and finance to deliver projects upto around $50m
