Are you an expert in the energy industry looking for your next challenge? We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as a Power Systems Consultant, Network Studies in the Grid Analysis and Planning group.
We are seeking a Network Studies Consultant to join our team and make a difference in the energy transition and sustainability efforts. As part of a distributed team, you will utilize your technical expertise to coordinate power transmission studies and collaborate closely with clients. Your role involves crafting tailored solutions that improve energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact, ensuring a balanced and efficient approach. By guiding clients towards optimal choices, you will contribute to impactful projects with real-world significance.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Leading consulting engagements through completion, aligning team members from different technical backgrounds within a multi-cultural environment.
- Execution of analyses of power systems, engagements for transmission and industrial network planning, and grid interconnection studies of large generation, storage, and load resources.
- Engaging with clients to work towards successful grid connection requests, highlighting potential risks and commercial implications (for Senior-level).
- Supporting the integration of power electronic devices, renewable generation, storage devices, HVDCs, etc. into AC grids (from conceptual studies to project execution).
- Supporting the analyses of high frequency phenomena like harmonic distortion, transient overvoltage, TRV, missing zero-crossings, or inrush currents.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field (Master’s or Ph.D. degree preferred).
- 5 or more years of experience in conducting power system analysis in steady and transient states required *Candidates with more experience can be considered for a higher level or vice-versa.
- Expert knowledge in transmission planning and operating studies (100 kV ~ 765 kV), power system performance analyses including load flow, dynamic stability, voltage stability, protection coordination, short-circuit and transfer limits.
- Experience in power system simulation programs (e.g. PSS/E, TARA, PSLF, DigSilent, PowerFactory, ETAP, PSCAD/EMTDC, MATLAB/Simulink).
- Deep understanding of grid connection procedures and grid codes, and particularly the modelling and study work involved. Relevant experience working and communicating with independent / transmission system operators (ISO / TSO), utilities, and developers.
- Advanced skills in HVDC and FACTS applications, power transmission systems, industrial power supply concepts, power electronics and renewable generation.
- Hands-on expertise in programming tools such as Python, FORTRAN, MATLAB, etc.
- Proven skills in effectively managing a team of experts (for Senior-level).
- Engaging in business development activities by developing proposals to address our clients’ challenges and putting together the appropriate execution team (for Senior-level).
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Some Travel Required (within the US and internationally ex. Germany, Mexico, Canada).
- Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.
