Über die Aufgabe
A Snapshot of Your Day
As a master’s thesis student, you will play an important role in developing and evaluating fatigue life assessment methods for welded joints in gas turbine exhaust components. Your daily activities will include literature review, data analysis, and simulation work using finite element (FE) software such as ABAQUS, as well as an in-house fatigue assessment tool. You will focus on understanding and applying fatigue life models to assess welded structures. The task includes performing FE simulations on a representative model with welds to analyze and evaluate fatigue life using different investigated approaches. You will work closely with your supervisors and benefit from continuous learning, mentorship, and collaboration within a supportive team.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Conduct a literature review on life assessment methods for welded joints under low cycle fatigue conditions.
- Perform FE simulations on a representative model of a gas turbine exhaust with welds.
- Assess the fatigue life of the welds.
- Evaluate and compare the investigated approaches of weld life assessment.
What You Bring
- Background in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Basic understanding of fatigue behaviour in metal and an ambition to learn more about fatigue behaviour of welds.
- Interest in fatigue analysis and application of fatigue models for life assessment.
- Analytical approach and motivation to solve engineering problems.
- Curiosity to investigate and explore theoretical knowledge with practical implementation.
- Collaborative mindset and strong desire to learn, adapt, and contribute to a diverse team.
We welcome applicants who are eager to grow, regardless of previous experience with FE software. If you are passionate about engineering and want to make a real impact, we encourage you to apply.
