Job Description: Steam Turbine Controls Engineer

A Snapshot of Your Day

In this role, you will function as Steam Turbine Controls Engineer providing engineering design using Siemens Energy Omnivise-T3000 for Siemens Energy Steam turbines and other OEM Steam turbines. On a day-to-day basis, the Controls Engineer spends 80% of their time in the back office on project related activities while the other 20% will be spent onsite supporting hot commissioning and startup support of their project. How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Review customer specification and determine project deliverables, identify potential risks. Convert SAMA logic diagrams, P&ID drawings, and process narratives into corresponding Distributed Control System (DCS) control logic and operator HMI screens for Steam.
  • Steam Turbine Governor Control / Auxiliary Systems design and configuration for Siemens Energy Steam turbines and non-OEM Steam. Participate in the commissioning and startup of steam turbine systems.
  • Simulation configuration and testing of Steam Turbine controls software. Configure hydraulic turbine trip schemes and over speed protection systems. Diagnose and resolve software issues in a timely manner.
  • Support and configure Steam Turbine rotor stress calculation methods and turbine automatic startup algorithms. Support Design Review meetings with customer and Project Manager
  • Perform factory acceptance test of control system using closed loop simulation and present to customer. Provide back-office support as well as onsite support of control system startup to field commissioning team.
  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and project managers. Provide technical support and training to customers and field service engineers. Conduct technical reviews and audits to ensure compliance with industry standards.

What You Bring

  • Master of Science or equivalent experience, with Engineering major from an accredited university. 5+ years of Steam turbine controls engineering/commissioning experience.
  • Experience with Distributed Controls System, Programmable Logic Controller configuration for Steam Turbine applications.
  • An excellent teammate who is self-motivated with the ability to prioritize, manage time, problem-solve and make decisions. Eager to learn and motivated to work in project teams/task groups while leading from the front!
  • Experience with hydraulic valve positioners and associated instrumentation such as servo coils and LVDTs. Proven understanding of configuration and testing of Turbine supervisory instruments like Vibrometer, BN3500, D3000. Knowledge of steam turbine auxiliary systems such as lube oil, control oil, turning gear, etc.
  • Working knowledge on Siemens Energy DCS -T3000 and Siemens S7 based system is a plus.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees or contractors with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.
