A Snapshot of Your Day
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer specializing in Core and Clamping for Power Transformers. This position focuses on delivering innovative designs and optimizing end products in alignment with Siemens Energy design standards, quality requirements, cost targets, and timelines.
Join us at the launch phase of our new manufacturing facility in Charlotte, NC, scheduled for completion in early 2026. In the initial phase, you will play a key role in:
- Supporting factory construction and process implementation.
- Developing a high-performance engineering team.
- Coordinating all aspects of factory setup to ensure readiness for production.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Understand the electrical design output and perform mechanical design, development and analysis of core and clamping assembly.
- Support the core and clamping manufacturing processes, quality inspections, failure analysis, concessions on tolerances, vendor development and responding queries from suppliers.
- Use 2D and 3D CAD software to model designs and individual parts to support the generation of 3D models, engineering drawings and prepare bills of material to support ordering of components like core clamps, tie-plates, top and bottom segments, winding supports, step blocks OD cooling parts, steel bandages etc.
- Prepare core cutting lists for cutting and slitting of cores for individual designs.
- Learn transformer design rules and use of transformer design calculation tools related to core and clamping.
- Collaborate on R&D projects for further product improvements.
- Perform advanced calculations like structural analysis (eg. using ANSYS, CREO simulate)
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years in core/clamping or active part design for Power Transformers (≥100 MVA / 220 kV).
- Strong knowledge of structural steel, insulation parts, core grades, and related materials (e.g., high tensile steel, GOES, laminated wood, pressboard).
- Familiarity with IEEE, ANSI, IEC standards for transformers and materials.
- Proficient in 3D CAD (CREO, PRO/E, Inventor), 2D CAD (AutoCAD), PDM systems (PDM Link, Teamcenter), and SAP for BOM creation.
- Excellent English communication skills; ability to work independently and coordinate with manufacturing and suppliers.
- Willing to relocate to Charlotte, NC.
