A Snapshot of Your Day

A typical day as a power system engineer is diverse and demanding, filled with tasks aimed at ensuring the safe and efficient operation of electrical systems. It would start by reviewing project plans, specifications, and client requirements to understand the scope of work for ongoing projects. Whether it's designing new electrical systems or upgrading existing ones, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive solutions that meet technical standards and regulatory guidelines.

How you will make an Impact

  • Some days are dedicated to analysis and simulation. Using specialized software tools, you'll model electrical networks, perform load flow studies, and simulate fault conditions to assess system performance and reliability. These analyses help identify potential issues and inform design decisions to optimize system operation.
  • Meetings are a regular part of the schedule, where you will discuss project progress, address technical challenges, and coordinate with colleagues, clients, and vendors. Effective communication and collaboration are essential in ensuring that projects stay on track and meet deadlines.
  • Fieldwork is also a key aspect of this role. Whether it's conducting site visits to assess existing infrastructure, overseeing equipment installations, or solving operational issues during equipment commissioning, you will ensure that projects are implemented according to design specifications and industry best practices.
  • Documentation is a crucial part of the day-to-day responsibilities. From creating engineering drawings and technical reports to updating project documentation and maintaining compliance records, you will ensure that accurate records are kept throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Your day will be a blend of technical analysis, collaboration, problem-solving, and technical project management, all aimed at delivering reliable and sustainable electrical solutions to meet the needs of our customers.

What You Bring

  • A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with some power systems and electrical machines courses
  • Minimum 5 years' experience performing power system analysis using ETAP, SKM, Easy Power, Simscape and/or PSSE. Those with more experience may be considered for a more senior level.
  • Heavy Industrial, Power Generation, Paper Mills, Cement, Steel and/or Marine Vessel experience
  • Strong organization and time management skills. Good verbal and written communication skills as well as good study report writing skills.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers

Preferred

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering with power system concentration is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of IEEE standards and electrical codes such as NEC, IEC, NEMA, NFPA 70, NFPA 70E and UL. OSHA and MSHA regulation knowledge preferred.
